Right, I'm off on the sick right, so... It's the Easter weekend approaching and there's two bank holidays...

Now, usually, I would take these as a holiday, but, since I cannot be on the sick and be on holiday at the same time... I'm wondering where I'll be on this and has anyone been in the same boat...

Like, say, do I get SSP from Monday to Thursday then full pay for the good Friday? Then the same next week for the bank holiday Monday?

But I'm thinking... I cannot be on the sick and be on holiday at the same time... So if I don't get the 2 days holiday, and instead get Friday and Monday under SSP, that means, I still have 2 days holiday spare in my holiday allowance, and by law, I do have to take these holidays.

Do you get what I mean?

I will have to ring the office and see what the score is, but, just wondering if anyone else had this?

I've never been in a job where bank holidays were part of my holiday allocation. But I'm pretty sure whatever the shitty end of the stick might be, that's what you'll be getting. Because life. :/

That's what I'm thinking as well... Be like "what, you've had 6 weeks off on the sick on crap pay and you want what... Two days in lieu to go out and do something you enjoy when your fit and well... Are you taking the p****?"

That's the reaction I'm expecting when I pose the question... being "shop floor", office staff though, more holidays then Michael Palins under garments!

If you are signed off sick on Bank holidays, you might be able to claim them back once you return from sick.

I know that if you are signed off sick when on A/L you can claim that back, so why not Bank holidays?

Have a look at the Public Holiday bit HERE

Might help.

Your employer might let you carry the days over to next year. The law will let them do that, but they don't have to. So you might be unlucky and just plain loose them.
Holidays are worked out a little different where I work, we get them by the hour, for example, I just had a week off, but because I took hardly any holidays through the year, I needed to take 60 hours worth of holidays in that week, which is nearly twice what I usually work. But as long as I get the money back, I don't really care.

However, you are not entitled to the public holiday if you are absent from work immediately before the public holiday and you have been off work for more than 26 weeks due to an ordinary illness or accident, or for more than 52 weeks due to an occupational accident.

Mmmmmm, looks like I'm eligible, and should be due to the two days in lieu.

Well, not the same setup as yours Mr S, but, I do have to take them, as in, if come the end of the year, I say, have 10 days holiday left on my allowance, 7 of these are for Christmas, with 3 spare, then, without fail, regardless if the company likes it or not, I have to break up for Christmas three days earlier then everyone else.

Anyway, just been on the phone, they are going to get back to me on that one cos they arent sure!

Can't say I've ever had a job where I was forced to take my holidays. It's always been use 'em or loose 'em.

Budget yourself as if you aren't going to get those two days.
Then if you do, bonus.

Always assume the worst, just in case!!

Yeah, not sure the reasons why either... But, once over when I worked for other firms, say, if I had them three spare days, I could work them three days (with pay) and get my 3 days holiday pay on top, which equals 6 days!

Which in some cases was a lovely little bonus... But these... Nah, your off and thats final! Which, works for me! lol

Now, it's like "Nah, your off and thats it"

It's not about the money par say, I'm fine on that front at the minute, did plenty of saving in the run up to my operation so, covered, I just didnt want to lose the two days holiday... Basically instead of having a long weekend when it's damp and cold, I can keep'em till the warm[er] weather!

EDIT: And I've just had a thought, this ingrowing hair has cost me a bomb in earnings... If this heals in the 6 weeks which was the estimate and when my note runs out... It would've cost £3000 flat, then, add the money I've saved for my bit's of bills, food and raspberry pi for the 6 weeks, your looking at £600-£700 pound on top... Granted you can knock the SSP off that, but that wont dint it!

I'm gutted.. I could've been in New York with that!

Stupid backward arse hair!

Yeah, but at least you're getting back to work!

4 years ago, I was convinced I'd be back at work by the month's end.
... .. Nope.. :\

Don't let it get to you, though. If you start looking for issues, you're bound to find them, and then it all gets dark and out of control, and you start to get depressed and shit.
You're fine. You'll get back to work, and all will be good.

Aye, I know... Never thought I'd ever ever say it... But I cannot bloody wait!

I asked the nurse is it recurring, ingrowing hairs, she said it can be, so, I asked her how do you, well, stop them... She said the only way is to get rid of the hairs on the bum... I was like "What, wax me bot?"

Tell ya, I'm going to have the smoothest pumper in the North East when it's completely healed! I'm talking back, crack and sack material here... And, I dont care if people take the piss... If that stops, THIS, then, I'm game!
