Can someone with a little plumbing knowledge tell me, is it usual for a flush toilet to be affected by wind outside?

Affected in what way? The only open exit to the outside should be the cistern overflow.

It takes a few goes to flush, perhaps its just on its way out.

Sounds weird.
I've never seen one do that, so my best guess would be..
Probably not!!

Nah, likely a problem with the handle or connection between the handle/float valve. Might be possible to adjust it, I dunno.

Dabz might know. He does buildery stuff.

Speaking of plumbing, we now have a blocked drain, that's affecting everything in the house except the toilet.

Put me rubber gloves on, drain cover off, poked it with a stick - no good. So, arm down, and the bloody thing is shoulder-deep, so obviously my wrist-length gloves weren't doing much good at this point. Pulled a load of congealed grease and rubbish out - still blocked. There's a little u-bend in a 6ft section of pipe that I can't get my arm into and I think that's where the blockage is. Had boiling water down it, that didn't help either. Took the manhole cover off and tried to backflush with a garden hose - didn't shift it.

I fucking stank - straight in the shower for me.

Will have to ring the landlord and get a plumber dude out tomorrow.

Not really, the only thing that would effect the bog is a blockage, which causes an air lock in the pipes and makes your toilet "bubble".

For your flush, well, depends on what type it is... amazingly, people ripped out the perfectly good handle variety cisterns for them internal top of the cistern button pressing antics, you know the ones, the little button for a piss, both buttons for a number two... And... They are shite, proper... I think we went through 3 of the buggers when I lived with the ex... BnQ, meh!!!

Fixed for now. the diaphragm was torn. I can't help think that perhaps the difference in air pressure on warm/cold days might have made it more noticeable. Anyway, took the old one out, drew around it on a plastic document wallet, cut the new one out, popped it in. Should hold until the new real one arrives off ebay.
What was putting me off taking a look, was that a lot sites were saying you have to take the whole bloody toilet apart to get at it, but no, this one just clips off, five minute job, including the cutting out of a new one.
