Fun w/Google Maps



Grabbed two screenshots off Google maps, stitched them together in Gimp, went to Filters > Map > Make Seamless, and this is the result:

A nice tileable landscape, perfect for a shmup!

It even blurs out the copyright watermarks...

Okay, so it's not really the most legal way to nick graphics - but it makes a lovely place holder until you can afford your own satellite

Edit: I was thinking of experimenting with the Google Maps API and having landscapes downloaded as you play, which would be fun. I know there's a 3D browser game that has already done this.
