Screenshots

A series of wordgames created for the Nintendo DS, in the same style as Stringy Things 2.

Check out the Worklog for the latest information.

Latest Update

This newer release of Stringy Things DS has been sat on my hard drive for a while..

..
And my mum's DS!

Plays best on No$GBA (Use the .ds.gba version) or a real DS.

Fantastic! This is what SuperCards were designed for...umm...

How easy is it to get to grips with DS coding? I would love to have a go myself.

To get started, you'll want..
1) DevKitPro : Gets the DevKit working, includes Programmers Notepad 2... (Alt+1 to compile takes some getting used to!)
2) PALib : PALib is a much easier to work with Graphic-Library set. (You might spot Spinal around there!)
3) No$GBA : Excellent Emulator.. Bloody great! Can't get the sound working, but otherwise superb. (Hit F3 to see the number of bugs in your game! The No$GBA guy also sells a Debug version, if you can't figure out where your bugs are.)

+ 4) Some kind of cart to play them on the real thing, if that's what you're aiming for.

Is this for the GBA or the DS proper? It seems that using DevKitPro you would be writing code for the ARM7TDMI (GBA). Of course, I'm probably wrong.

This is great! I actually arsed to download the emulator It has crazy potential as a proper DS game!!
The No$gba emulator doesn't give me correct colors unfotunately (GBA MODE!!!). PAlib Installer actually comes with the desume emulator anyways!

I await your tutorial onto how to freaking set up the blasted thing :|

Desume isn't entirely perfect..
It's good, but not as good as No$GBA.

I had the colours thing happen to me, too. Go into Options, set GBA mode to VGA, then save the options, then quit, then reload. Should be fine.

As for setting things up, first install DevKitPro, then Install PALib (use the installers, let them use default settings)
Then go into c:\devkitpro\PALibexamples\demos\bunny.
Open up Template.pnproj
Hit Alt+2 to "Clean" then Alt+1 to "Compile"
Go back to the directory, and load the .ds.gba file into No$GBA. (Double click, open with No$GBA, saves you time in the future!)

Then pull off bunny's whiskers.

To start coding, copy the 'PALibTemplate' directory + contents to your Dev directory, and ensure you have absolutely no spaces in the file path!

Double click template.pnproj, then in the "Projects" sidebar, open up Main.c

That's where your code goes.

Nice! Didn't know you were entering it into a compo I'm assuming you'll be busy trying to get the save system going. Good luck!
I've had a quick look at the other current entries and I think Stringy things DS will have a really good chance at winning! Whoops hope I didnt jinx it!

Awesome, just needs some calm backround music!

I've tended not to add music to any Stringy Things. Basically if I do, it would be dull and repetitive, and you'd end up turning it off anyway! So I just choose not to have any music!
