I had noticed a image editor based on dpaint. Actually 2 if you count pro motion.

I have not seen any dpaint clones that look the same.

Dan - yup I tracked down a disk image of it online, it seems really good when compared to anything else DOS had at the time.

Yeah, i know the dos-dpaint only from online ressources. I wanted to try it out, because i know dpaint on the amiga.

Of course, there is GrafX2 for windows and rpi's 3's, but haven't used it yet, too.
