Socoder -> Question of the Day -> QOTD : What next?

This week I'm taking timeout to build a major new framework for my AGameAWeek games. Quite a lot to do, and nowhere near done yet!!

Qotd : Is it time for a new project yet? If so, what is it?

It's not time for a new project until I'm done with this one, which I actually expect to be done rather soon (hopefully next week). |edit| Not really next week at all. |edit|

After that, I think I'll give Unity a real shot. Meaning more than five minutes of skimming through the windows before deciding that it's crap.

Really? With UE3 out there, I'd honestly pick that instead.
I've always found the editor to work quite well, and have built a nice handful of UT levels with it. (although they all seem to rapidly vanish, each time I have to reinstall..... I really need to start backing those up, next time I try 'em!)

Spare
I need to finish the game for my 2nd quarter of school before next thursday. Hoping to have some spare time after that to work on my map editor.

Meh, I had to make a communication system for Java 2 Second Life for my college final, which luckily (despite not having presenting it myself) I still got an A in the class even though there were a few bugs (Darn you MySQL).

I really don't have a framework for the WWs, though I am trying to write up something in C++ so I can get back to work in a more up to date language.

Let's see...

I've started building a game for my Microsoft Zune, but for a month now (since the middle of December), I've not been in the mood to program (I think it is related to winter depression).
So instead I've worked on improving my drawing/sketching/Photoshop skills, and right now I'm working on a portfolio-video, which will include games...

For me, it's not time for a new project. It's time to finish the current one that seems to be dragging on a bit. After that, I might do some PHP work or some up with some game dev ideas I can put in practice. Actually, better yet, I could work on some game ideas while working on the base engine of my games! Brilliant!

Actually starting a couple of new projects. Going to be working on all the software for a control system for a surgical robot. Also have another project continuing the efforts of my solar powered robot for the IEEE SouthEastCon competition. Then I guess my third project is keeping up with all of my new classes >.<

Yeah, I'm working with a grad student on the project. He's good with hardware, and I've got the software down pat, so we're teaming up and making a system to control a robot for remote surgery. At first it will be a simulated robot, so once we're done with that I'll hopefully be able to post videos or at the very least link you to the research paper.

Sounds good, scherer...er...er, lol. Its not time for a new project for me, but time to get back into one I'm already working on. Trouble is, not sure which that should be.

Sounds really exciting, Scherererer! You should definitely post some updates!

I've been very busy with sleeping, essays, sleeping, partying and sleeping recently, so rather than a proper game I've started on something light - a (very!) partial implementation of SVG/vector graphics in Cobra and I'm writing an editor now.

Hoping to add some boned animation features & inverse kinematics, and if all goes to plan it'll make it really easy to create some quick games. Hoping once it's developed a bit to start entering some Wednesday Workshops with it, as I reckon it'd make it quite easy to create fairly graphically-complex games without much work.

I've still got several uncompleted games in the pile, but that's for the holidays!

In accordance with my (seemingly) ongoing project to learn as much about art in general as possible, here's an ongoing Mudbox model I've been working on in Mudbox:

It was going to be a female Na'vi, but it just keeps looking alot like a male Na'vi. I've been working on it for... maybe 10 hours altogether over the course of three weeks or so. Hopefully it'll have braids when it's done! Hopefully when it's done it'll also look decent enough to be included in my portfolio...

That looks really good Afr0. I must say you've matured a lot as a 3D artist -- I remember the first models you were making, and this one really demonstrates your evolution. Keep up the good work!

Definitely, it's a fantastic model. Terrifically realistic - looks completely professional to me.

Does it animate just as well, 'cos that'd be great to use in your little youtube anims.

No, Mudbox doesn't animate. Mudbox is just used for sculpting. I could export it as a normal map, or import the model into Max and use it to create a normal map.
But the model's not even done yet!
