Socoder -> Off Topic -> scrap the forum?

The replies should be threaded in-line

That's what my shout says as well. I have no idea why I started talking about AJAX, but that's what I meant. XD

If I did that, I might as well scrap the forum.

PS, it's still a bit borked..

I think we're already in a position to scrap the forum. Not much of a difference there. xd

Nah, keep the forum! Sure, there are things you can do in the shoutbox that you can also do in the forum, but there are plenty of things you can do in the forum that cannot be done in the shoutbox.

The shoutbox is good for throw-away stuff, but the forum is useful for long term keeping of info. It's a valuable resource of knowledge and talent.

I'm going to probably be the first to say that I don't like the shoutbox stuff in the forums. It's making it way too spamy. Sure, we want to encourage more forum activity, but if it's all junk quality then it's pointless. It will only further damage the forum by causing people to ignore posts more.

Quit posting and try Google.

I agree that replies should be threaded. That would be better then turning them into a forum topic.

DD's "My PHD" thing.... NOT something that should've been confined to the Shoutbox.
Spinal's VirusKiller quest... Shoutbox, really?!

In the past couple of weeks, I've been getting really ticked off at the fact that some REALLY interersting stuff is getting slapped into the shoutbox, then inevitably lost forever.

It's time we stopped losing the interesting things, just because the shoutbox is quicker to use.
Now we can drag the interesting stuff right back into the forum, and rightly preserve it the way it was meant to be.

That, and the shoutbox has always annoyed me because... it kind of looks and functions like a chat, so you expect people to answer fast, but when they don't it's just annoying.
So I prefer [the forum] threads.

Shoutbox needs an archive!

I think that's exactly what Jay doesn't want. But I second that.

A shoutbox archive will be as much of a chaotic rambling bag of unorganised pap as the Mudchat Archive.

What about a button on the shouts to let people save shout posts? Hmm... well, if we make the shoutbox threaded, we could move shouts with lots of replies to the forum, once the shout group is left alone long enough.

...or, maybe a 'save section' could work better too, because some shouts are lengthy but not important.

Ya know, I've seen some forum posts turn into a pretty fast series of posts before. I'll be replying to one person and 4 others have replied by the time I'm finished. But... yeah
