Socoder -> Off Topic -> Government Shutdown

You see that tiny purple line? That is the disputed amount of the US budget. That is what the Republicans are threatening to shut our government down over. The Democrats have tried very generous compromises to come to an agreement, but Republicans want it all. They're holding the country hostage by threatening this shutdown.

So what does that purple line represent? It's about healthcare. The Republicans are trying to use the budget to push their political agenda. Also, about $700 million of that is for food programs to feed those in need.

A shutdown would stop all non-essential government services. Nearly a million Americans would be asked to stay home from work. The IRS would stop processing tax filings. Small businesses and homeowners wont be able to receive government assistance in loans. Seniors wont be able to apply for social security benefits. Farmers wont be able to get money to grow crops. Meanwhile, the Republicans and Tea Party are chanting "shut it down" like a bunch of mindless uneducated idiots.

This isn't a political thread about whether democracy is good or evil. It's about the ethicalness of these actions. What do you guys think about this? I'm pretty pissed.

Same kind of shit the Democrats are pulling in this state.
I think the Party system is stupid and needs to be dissolved entirely.

I read an article a few months ago about what Republicans do in order to win elections. Basically they filibuster every major legislature so that the government can't do anything. This makes the whole government look bad (they like doing it more when democrats are in control), and levels the playing field at election time. The Democrats, meanwhile, are trying to at least get some positive changes to take place.

This whole shutdown thing looks like another way for Republicans to sour people's view of the government.

The Republicans were pulling some crap earlier. They proposed a bill to continue to fund the troops even if the government is shut down. They also tacked some abortion legislation on to that. The Democrats of course didn't go for the bill because of the abortion text. Then the Republicans turned around and said "the Democrats don't support our troops" to defame them.

They are out of control.

Just a theory, but... I'm pretty sure this wouldn't have happened if CPUSA were in charge.

That said, fuck the GOP!

Looks like America is in some serious shit!

In our country, according to a documentary on BBC, the Muslim extremists reckon that Sharia Law will govern the UK. The day I bow down to Islamic Law will be the day that Bin-Laden becomes Catholic.

Have a butchers at this: (Linkage)

As much as I disagree with the views of the Islamic brother in that documentory, I actually have more respect for him then I do for the documentory reporter. It mainly comes down to the personal issues the reporter keeps creating between him and his brother; such as when he has a go at his brother at the end in the airport just before he leaves.

One thing to remember in regards to Sharia law is that it is not all about cutting off people's hands, beating women to death with stones and bloody Jihad. When first created, centuries ago, it was quite progressive. It includes ideas such as fixed and fair wages for workers, and even that banks should more of the risk in their products then our western banks do today. However the problem is that because most of the fair and progressive sections are already either incorporated or advocated in mainstream politics. So all that is left to diffirentiate it from other points of view are the extreme ideas, like cutting off people's hands.

Finally Islamic fundamentalists are also about as representational of muslims as the BNP is of the English!

They also don't want us to have freedom, that's more than enough to put-off the majority of people.

There are just too many corrupt Muslims and I don't think Mankind deserves to be controlled by arrogance. They hate Westerners, it would be one rule for them and too many rules to control us.

Islamic Law also hates anyone who is gay with a vengeance. If you are gay, they are going to kill you if Islam takes over.

Some people are gay and Muslims need to change with the times, it's not their fault, they're simply born that way.

Some of my friends are gay/bisexual and I would stand with them shoulder to shoulder to stop Islamic Law systematically slaughtering them!

Here is an update on the situation.

One issue is still on the table, the funding of Planned Parenthood for $7 billion dollars (0.2% of the budget). This is a program that provides millions of women free healthcare services. It saved 93,000 lives last year with free breast cancer screenings. Republicans REFUSE to budget this in. It's political agenda.

They would rather shut down the government at a cost of $4 billion per day and waste this money instead of helping women.

This is disgusting. What the hell is wrong with these people?

Joe, I do understand your point. It's not Muslims in general that I have the problem with, I've met many and most of them do have a sense of humour.

It's the Extremists and Terrorists that I have the problem with and it's them who would be controlling that out-of-date law, who watches the watchers eh?

Definitely got cut until further notice. But it made sense to do that since the bulk of the work was already done.

I might return later for some trivial portions of the job.
