Just finished it. The ending was quite peculiar

I thought it was pretty awesome. The game had so many unexpected twists, even in the ending...

I was interested in the first portal since the first time I saw it. After playing it for a while (got it free from a steam special) I'm interested in Portal 2, but too bad I can't afford it. Portal 2 should be a fun game, especially the cooperative levels. But I hope it will include a level editor so players can create their own challenges.

You could always make levels with Hammer for any Source Engine game. The SDK content for Portal 2 should be out in the near future.

Steam Store says:

Editing Tools: Portal 2 editing tools will be included. Note: To be made available after launch.

I hope that it's an easy-to-use editor, rather than a full-on SDK (having both would be ideal)

Shroom, I found that to be true, unfortunately you had to have a working version of Half Life 2, which I don't, in order to use Hammer. There was an in-game editor, a kind of hacked-in type editor, not by Valve, but the controls and effects were limited - but better than nothing!

I was messing around with Hammer a few months ago, and I definitely can't wait for the Portal 2 sdk to come out.

Is Portal 2 in a new version of the source engine? It feels like it is- the options menu isn't in a vgui screen anymore, (although maybe that's just game-specific) and you no longer have to go into the dev console to activate an xbox360 controller - it activates automatically.

I suspect it is, because the physics seem to have been improved a bit, and some of bits of the dev commentary imply new stuff they've added. Most of it seems to be behind the scenes though - all the prebuilt physics events were in HL2:Ep2, and those main menu backgrounds were already in use in Left 4 Dead.

Portal 2, as well as Left 4 Dead, both use a .vpk instead of a .gcf to store data like sound data and such. Perhaps they use the same engine? Or am I just outright wrong?

Each version of Source is more of an upgrade on the last, so there would be no reason for Portal 2 to revert to an old format now that Source uses .vpk files.

I finished Portal2 on Saturday, what a great game!

Fair enough the puzzles were easier than Portal 1, but it was more enjoyable and soooo much longer!

I was half expecting a robot Cave Johnson at some point!

Some of you finished the whole game?

Who took the shortest time?

They seemed to have retconned out at the last minute a lot of stuff that seemed confirmed for the game, particularly with regards to Cave.

And the amount of time it takes to complete really depends on whether or not you stop to listen to the dialogue. There are places in the game where some of the characters (namely Wheatley) will keep speaking for ages while they wait for you to do something, and some of it is worth listening to.

The dialogue in the first one was good, too. For example, "If you feel thirsty, feel free to pass out. An associate will come shortly to assist you." Yeah when? In a thousand years? lol

Yeah, true, but a lot of Wheatley's bonus dialogue is pure gold.

To be honest, I actually hated Wheatley. He was cute to start, but he overstayed his welcome.

I liked when Wheatley was hacking the neurotoxin generator, but never finished the dialog. I ended up watching it on YouTube. xd
