Bill Gates has a certain cool geekiness about him, Steve Jobs is just a stiff!

Always Bill Gates. Jobs will never be close.

Bill Gates made his money being a bit of a bully and forcing his often-inferior products into key positions to become standards. In the end, though, he doesn't waste most of the money on extravagance, but does good things with it.

Steve Jobs is nothing but a marketing asshole and a puppet who tells you Apple's often-inferior products will do good things for you in order to rake in as much of your money as possible.

Steve Jobs is brillant. He knows how to build great products. Bill Gates stole the idea for Windows from Steve Jobs. If anyone is an asshole, it's him. Sure, Steve Jobs saw the GUI from PARC, but he turned that idea in to a real product.

Anyone who thinks Steve Jobs is an asshole doesn't really know him. I read a book written by his close partner at Apple. He is so generous to his employees and cares excessively about the product. He often personally hands out bonuses to them. He goes on retreats with all of the employees every few months. He once went out to the assembly factory and talked with the actual people and asked him how they could speed it up. He then handed out $100 dollar bills and personally thanked them all.

There is a reason so many Microsoft products fail. The company is structured terribly. They just don't get it.

So Steve stole the idea too. It's also well known that Steve stole the idea, where as it's only rumour that MS stole the idea from Apple. That's also only if you gloss over the fact that Windows 1.0 had changes made specifically to avoid it copying Apple Lisa (for example GUI windows couldn't overlap for this reason).

Over 1 billion Windows licenses sold, that's a failure?!?!?

Microsoft also makes more money then Apple.

All Steve Jobs saw was a prototype. They spend months developing that idea in to a real product. They fleshed out a simple prototype in to a real product. Microsoft was suppose to write software for it and instead Bill Gates went off and copied it behind their back after getting a sneak peek.

How many products has Microsoft launched and later pulled? Countless. Steve Balmer is an idiot.

Also, Apple makes more money now.

Sod the early years, the Massive comeback that Apple have pulled off, is probably the biggest I've ever seen!
They've gone from dead-as-a-dodo, to absolute major players, and it's pretty much down to an mp3 player!

That's only for one quarter, for all of 2010 MS made $4 billion more then Apple in profit. That's a big difference.

Either way, even if Windows isn't to your taste I just think it's childish to be saying "all of Microsoft's products fail" when the fact is they make billions today and have been for years. Even lots of Apple users own a Windows PC because they find it useful to have at least one.

Jobs was a marketing twat profiting off Wozniak's work in the old Apple, and the new Apple specifically brought him back to be a marketing twat. That's what he is.

Pointless insults to either person aside, I like that Gates has done a lot of philanthropic work. A lot of his money has been put to good use (and I mean outside of Microsoft), so kudos to him for that. I don't pay attention to what Jobs does, so I don't know if he's done the same.

We're not talking about 2010, we're talking about 2011. Apple has been blowing investors away each quarter and will likely continue to make more money than Microsoft.

I didn't say all of Microsoft's products fail. I said a lot of them do and it's true.

Macs users only find Windows useful because they have to use it for certain software. Most Mac users get irritated when they have to use Windows. In fact, I heard a developer complaining today about it when it started throwing cryptic errors and locking up.

You don't think Woz made tons of money too? He got insanely rich on Apple stock. You really need to educate yourself on this topic before throwing cheap insults. NeXTSTEP was a bad ass operating system. That's why Apple bought it and brought him back to the company. Jobs doesn't even do Apple's marketing. He focuses all of his time on building great products. Don't take my word for it, ask his employees. It's everything he lives for.

For the record, I have nothing against Bill Gates. He is a very generous man. I do disagree with his blatant theft of early Macintosh concepts. Yes, Apple used PARCs technology, but PARC was very aware that Apple would be doing it. Gates came along after Apple had spent many months painstakingly creating Macintosh and stole all of the work. PARC had rough concepts. Apple deserves a lot more credit than it gets.

I don't really have a lot of compassion for either one, they are both money hungry capitalists. That said, what Gates is doing with his money is much more commendable than what Jobs is doing (which is presumably to keep it for himself).

Jobs does know how to make devices that are a visual gimmick that sell.

Gates on the other hand can make products that can save or make a persons business be productive.

We might be comparing an Apple to an Orange so to speak.

It's not a gimmick. Apple spends tons of money on R&D. They build much better products. Ask anyone who has ever used an Apple device.

Well, I like practically any other .mp3 player better than an iPod, because the iPod's menu system sucks ass and makes zero sense. So, perhaps you had better ask any Apple fan rather than "anyone".

Apple will replace any product that is defective. I've seen cases where they replaced G5's over 5 years after the warranty expired because they felt they were at fault for the computer breaking. Name me one other computer company that would do that. The quality control is unparalleled. You get what you pay for with Apple.

Where desktop computers are concerned, after Amiga and Amstrad etc, I've always had a PC. It's what everyone seemed to have at the time, so I just followed suit.

I've never really been into mobile devices, my very basic mobile phone does me at the moment. I dunno whether I would go for an iPhing or an Android based device, if I ever decide to upgrade.
