Rejigged tool, got exporter working, seems to be importing into the printer converter doohickey program well enough..
Will be attempting a test print after The Chase..!

(Note : The glow is merely a picture from the iPad underneath, glowing through the thin plastic!)

Mmmmmm!

Still not got everything I need!! Ffs!!
Tomorrow, terps/white spirit, and a decent container, so I can wash out the wee paint brushes, and then it’ll be a battle with shaky hands, as I attempt to paint my lovely little Platdude!

Been putting this stage off for long enough.
First coat, not too bad considering it's been about 20 years since I last attempted this, and my hands aren’t exactly the steadiest pair of hands in the world!!
Second coat will be later (maybe tonight?) in which I’ll need to get closer to the edges, and define the lines a little better.

Looks good. What are all the diagonal lines tho? Is that the back?

Yeah, that’s the bottom when printed, so you can easily'ish tear away the stability base from the actual model.
The other side, the paint isn’t quite as nicely adhered to the surface and you can see streaks in it. This "bottom" looks WAY better than the other side!!

I’ll be doing a second coat, neatening the edges and hopefully making the front look a bit better.
Still happy with the result, though.

\o/yeay\o/ for printing!!

Ah I see. Maybe give the painted side a light rub-down with a 2000 grit sandpaper to give the paint something to cling on to?

Good idea, yeah.
There’s probably oodles of techniques for this. I, as per usual, am simply ploughing ahead without looking

Well, the reason the back has covered so well is cos the surface is rougher. Ideally you'd sandpaper the surface you're going to paint with 1000 grit, cover it with spray primer, sand again with 2000 grit, then paint. If it's good enough for cars its good enough for Platdude.

A lot of primers aren't good on plastic cos of the solvents but I think there's a Plastikote one that'd be perfect for this.

Jay - if you're still working on glass then I've found the perfect alternative to gluesticks!

I knew hairsprays worked for many people but I've had issues trying to find one that worked well. That's no longer the case - if you have an Aldi near you then pick up a can of CARiNO Firm Hold (With Vitamin B5). They're around 89p each. Bargain.

Make sure the glass is proper clean (soapy water) and dry. Then attach back to printer base and spray this stuff over. Heat the bed up and let it sit for a minute to dry out a little. Then go print away.

The base underneath is perfectly smooth - no more weird gluestick texture

Oh, and just let the bed temp drop when you're done and the print will just pop off in your hand without any effort!
