On a closed (but not shut down) laptop, windows happily does background updates, so you don’t have to look at that screen nearly as often. Maybe just two or three times a week?

Usually I dont mind, but having got a new laptop yesterday, before I even started removing and DELL software I could find, I stupidly checked for updates. So the laptop has been sitting most of yesterday and most of today chugging along installing windows updates and grinding the thing to a halt. It's done now though, so all is good. Now I must remember not to customize the hell out of it, it isn't a gaming PC so it wont take kindly to me filling up the RAM with unneeded docks and sidebars and stuff.

Lol, my brother and me bought a new Galaxy S7, which was on discount sale (as a birthday present).

The update process of it took about 2,5~3h because it was downloading the update packs after each other. (including installing and 'optimizing' the apps) ...

So, it is not only 'windows' which may cause the delays until the machine can be used !

Anyway, keep calm and take the time, and always look on the bright side of life (literally !)

Thankfully a lot of programs now update happily in the background without constantly needing bloody restarts all the time.
If only Microsoft could code things in the same way that everyone else does!!

The windows store is also a real annoyance. It seems to install everything you ever bought on every new machine you get. Then there is this thing that certain games only have a certain amount of installs possible.

I seem to not be able to find info on how to disable the auto installs.
