My cousin's New Year news was that she has breast cancer and needs to have to have both removed ASAP. She's only in her thirties.

Eek. They "have to have" both removed? Must be badly spread. A number of people tend to have to have just one removed, and then depending on their preference have the other removed to match. Send well wishes and hugs.

Sadly, it seems to be a genetic defect in pretty much every member of my family on my Mum's side (including my Mum, although she recovered well to treatment). My gran died at aged 45 (IIRC) as a result of it. I suspect my sister is bricking it, seeing as she is now at that age.
