Socoder -> Off Topic -> Wtd : Title for new section..

I think I've figured out (in my head! I should jot this down before I forget!) what needs to be done for the new section. But before I start coding it, I need a name for it. (so all the various versions of it, all over my script, are equal.)

It's the section for the "I write a bit, You add a bit" game thing, that's currently being played in the Game Time topic.

For a little while I considered calling it "Coders Workshop", but decided that having two sections named "Workshop" would probably get confusing.

So, any other suggestions?

I'm after something that would work as a single word.. Like Showcase, Snippet, Article, Link and Workshop.
Out of your list, Alliance stands out, but.. I dunno..

Actually, I kinda like Campfire, too!

Nah, I prefer Campfire. It already says SoCoder in the title so we don't need to see it twice

thats taken

Campfire is pretty good, and seems to have a backing.

Incidentally, what does wtd stand for? I assume you don't mean the Working Time Directive which is the only thing that comes to mind...

WTd-->What the devil(diablo)

but hey how about this for a title?
Its based on a low budget sci-fi thriller
from 2004 that I saw a week ago. And pretty good
one too.
Also, since the shapes and structures of the sections
are patterned after rectangles and boxes.

GameBox from the movie GameBox 1.0

I think WTD means "What to do?"

SoCode-a-Thon was the first idea that came to my mind too.

WanTeD : Or was that not obvious? Should I have used REQ : instead?

Right, I think I'm going with Campfire, seems popular.
I haven't coded ANYTHING for it, today! I planned to, but then got stuck messing about with Platdude again! Oopsy
Maybe tomorrow!

So, is it just going to be a regular forum section, or is it going to be a single, editable code box, or something like that?

If the original Campfire poster (or a moderator) likes the updated code in a comment, he clicks the update button.. The comment is shifted into the top box, the other 2 shuffled down, and the original code kept where it is..

I just need to get all that working!!

Definitely make it so that a moderator has to approve the updated code. Otherwise, all it would take was one bored asshole to ruin the fun.

Jay,

it wasn't obvious.

I thought 'Wtd' meant 'What the devil'
or perhaps When the deed is done...or kind of
thing. Sorry, but 'WanTeD' never came up.

Maybe it's because it's the weekend.. I dunno. I just don't seem to be making any progress with the Campfire stuff.

Gimme till Monday. I seem to be at my most productive on Mondays lately!

Actually, one little Q.
Should there be different sections for Campfire projects?

At first I thought it'd be like the showcases, with loads of different areas. But having thought it through. We really have no idea where projects will lead. You can't really catagorise a project when all it is is a little graphic effect awaiting a bit of gameplay.

..

I'm thinking, instead, that there should be just one large area, with loads of selectable views. View alphabetically, view recently updated, view popular projects, view "finished" projects, that sort of thing. (and of course, sort by language!)

|edit| For those who have spotted it, I've just fixed the "sometimes the forum doesn't show anything after I've posted something" bug. It'll fix when I get round to uploading the campfire stuff! |edit|

|update| Over the course of the weekend, I'll be uploading and testing this whole thing in multiple ways. I'll be using index2.php so site service shouldn't be messed up. However, when I do get the Campfire working to a moderate degree, a strange item will appear over in the Latest Items list. The list won't know what it is, since it's in a new section. To be honest, I'm not really sure how index.php will handle it. I usually add things quicker than this. It's usually a case of a simple add and upload, then it works! But this has a few complexities that go with it, so I'll be uploading loads of version, and probably screwing a few things up in the meantime! Hence the use of index2.php... So in the interests of Site Safety, if you do see something odd appear, and Mr Testo's lurking around the site, try not to click it! Thanks! |update|

Hey, Jay, about the 50kb hex bit...

Couldn't you have an

bit, and have a little link to download extras.bb at the top of each Campfire project?

Cheers
