New iPad(M4)

I decided to buy the new iPad pro. The cheapest model.

Yesterday during a birthday party I used the older iPad to showcase the older version of chatGPT its conversation mode. It kind of showed me how this ai and then having good hardware could really be helpful.
Those assistants are entertaining and have health knowledge. Can educate. Look up information. Can keep company.

The Apple mics and speakers and battery life. And with the new m4 having up to date hardware with ai in mind. It kind of tilted the balance.

This year my old iPad 2018 wil get obsolete too. I have it playing self help books during my time at home.

The oled screen should be the most important upgrade. Should be real bright. The speakers are a downgrade according to a lot of people. Thinner. But the low electrical costs are important to me too.

I wil most likely try and work on some older game projects on it. And use it for music creation too.

The model is the 256 gb storage one. 128 and doing video and audio is not enough for me. And the 2024 model has no 128gb model anymore.

Should be up and running this evening.

Cool!
I might be joining you. I'm waiting to see if WWDC (tomorrow?) brings actual purpose to having such a powerful chip in the device!

Some messages mentioned Apple is aiming to win in the ai market.

Their health features might be something to look out for.

Its the 10th to 14th this June.

The installation was not perfect again. Seems Apple has some problems there.

Stil. The new iPad runs as it should, I had spent a bit of time inside Logic Pro. The iPad screen got a bit hot after a while. I need to see if this is a issue.

There is no big difference with the screen. It does look a bit sharper. Not that much brighter at all.

The sound is not bad at all.

I have no idea how to test gpu and cpu. A old game effect I did on a gaming laptop years ago, still runs slow.

How about JSE test!?

Or Geekbench, I suppose...

Getting mixed results. The first test was high. Then various other numbers. The last 3 was as at plus minus the bottom screenshot.

Just closed the window. Then reran. Now it says 1984 again. The second run was at 1388. Seems there is something a foot.

Edit : I remembered there was a antutu html benchmark : ran it only once though.

Edit : I think the m2 had 80766 points there(according to a screenshot)

First JSE run is always higher, as it takes a while for the JavaScript to optimise itself.
Mine's 2.9 for the first, and 2.3 thereafter, so that makes the M4 about 20% or so faster.
But remember that JSE is very very linear, so (I presume) it'd be classed as single-core performance.

I just put on the new Mad Max movie on the hbo max app.

I must say, that the brightness of the screen, and colors are very good on this iPad.

Edit: Got exited for nothing. It was the 2014 movie...

Could maybe be the last tablet device needed before artificial super intelligence. Then we can all go visit other worlds through Stargates.

I have had my iPad pro for a week now. Noticing a bit of heat on the top of the screen during heavier work. But nothing worrisome.

Games are not what iPad is made for. I can not remember there ever being a time that the number one spot was not taken by Minecraft.

Apple outlawed emulators again I read.

Nice to see RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic's still up there. If you haven't grabbed that, do! It's a wonderful version.

It's got to the "here's your iPad! Woot" stage, but still has over 80Gb of downloading to do before everything's as it should be.
Shocking!!

Lesson Learned : If you think you're about to upgrade your iPad, do NOT install the developer beta onto the old one, because the two devices are not compatible, and your Mac will refuse to do a backup, meaning everything has to be done slowly and annoyingly slowly using the iCloud Backup/Transfer server.
My god, it's been over 12 hours and the new iPad is barely in a functional state, with all my apps missing, and everything running slowly because it's still doing the transfer in the background.

Gah!!!!

I had it sync/download with and using a previous device next to it. It was less than an hour or so before I could use it.

The password re-entry situation has improved a bit again this generation too. The in-app downloads was a lot easier too.

Yeah, I'm presuming it's because of the beta I installed last week. Made everything SO much slower.

Today, I tackled the task of transferring mum's iPad Air 3rd Gen onto my iPad Air 4th Gen.
First had to hook my old iPad up to the Mac, and do a system restore so that it wasn't running the Beta anymore.
Then. ...
Well, that worked easily enough. It happily did an iPad to iPad transfer and took no more than about 15 minutes to do it.
Fuxake...

Now Mum has two iPads...
I've left her both for a few days, to see if she can handle the 4th Gen, or whether she prefers the 3rd.
The 4th Gen doesn't have a home button.. *gasp*

Oh, sorry, no, it did turn up yesterday. Sorry.
Yeah, that's my new one and it took all bloomin' night to do the transfer. Shocking.

It did look shiny But was not sure.

I was just trying to get some synth sounds to sound like a old 1999 song on my previous ipad pro. Flat Beat by mr Oizo.

Music and iPad os does get along well...
