mindstorm8191	About 2 years ago, I ordered a domain name (dannysgames.com) through assurancehosting.com. It was a 2-year purchase for a decent rate. Now, because of troubles with my current website host (another company), I am wanting to change the site-host for my domain name. The trouble is, the domain host I had, is now gone. Replaced by a domain sitter. I would like to keep my same old domain, and pay for another 2 years of having it, but apparently I can't. I am willing to go through another company, at a worse rate, to keep my domain name, but most places still say I can't, since its taken. Does anyone know a way I can get my domain name back? -=-=- Vesuvius web game

Jayenkai	Squatters are f'ing assholes. (See Socoder.com) They'll sit there, and now that they know you want it, they'll keep right on sitting there, until either you lose interest, or fork over a shitload of cash. There really should be some kind of rule against that type of thing. Godaddy.com have a "Wait till it's free" function for Domain purchases. You request the domain, then they pluck it up as soon as they can. (Just stick the url into the "domain finder" and it should pop up.) If you know your domain's going to become free (as opposed to defaulting to whoever grabbed the host's domain) then it might be worth using that service. -=-=- ''Load, Next List!''

Stealth	If the domain is important to you, I would file a legal dispute with the former web hosting company. Domain providers are required by ICANN to offer grace periods to insure domains you own do not expire unintentionally. If they violated this rule then you may want to get in touch with someone from ICANN. -=-=- Quit posting and try Google.

mindstorm8191	Well, I still have my domain name, it still works just fine, and is pointed to my homepage. The trouble right now is, I can't go edit the settings. I can't even put money down to keep it. I don't think the domain will expire until my declared timespan is up. But then I've got no way to keep it. -=-=- Vesuvius web game

Stealth	Contact the company and request a domain transfer. They will unlock your domain and give you an "auth code" that you will give to your new registrar. -=-=- Quit posting and try Google.
