Residents of a town in the UK blocked a Google StreetView car from coming into their neighborhood.

I think it's a perfectly legitimate action on behalf of the persons who did it, but it sparks up an ethical debate. How much is too much information aggregation? where's the line? What are your thoughts on the matter?

Kids, get inside! Hurry! It's...it's...it's the Google van!

I personally have no problem with streetview, but I'm all for that town if they collectively say no. As for where the line is with me, I'd say streetview is as far as they should go. Don't want Google panoramic images of my living room posted online. How hilarious would that be?

It's a bit ironic, considering how many CCTV cameras we have. People should tear them down instead.

I think people get a bit too paranoid about this stuff. Sure, I can see your front yard on Google Maps and it's a lot easier than if I took a trip to your city and looked, but it's not like I am seeing something I shouldn't be. These things are public as is and anybody who was serious about doing something dangerous isn't going to be stopped by not having images on Google Maps of it.

In the end I think it should be the neighborhoods choice, but people really need to take a chill pill. This isn't that dangerous, it's just a picture.

If they start pointing a camera in my face, I'm going to drop my trousers and moon at them

Nah, we already felt that way about the brits . But it's okay, all Americans are fat and stupid, so what goes around comes around.

Well in my case, they would have got the "mad" part right !

Instinct But it's okay, all Americans are fat and stupid

I guess you have never seen a British politician then, especially Gordon Brown !

Well, they still haven't taken any pictures of anywhere near where I live yet. They seem to have started in the inner-city areas, and are slowly making their way out to the villages and towns.

It's good to know we share the same ideas . Now what is needed is a long line of people mooning-off at the GoogleCam

|edit| And I mean mooning-off in a good and proper manner, AKA Ace Ventura Style |edit|

While I have no problem with pictures of my house being on Google Street View, I can entirely understand the concerns of the townspeople. Not sure why there's a big cry against people not wanting pictures like that exposed to anyone who might want to see them.
