Ooooh, that would be lovely as a whole movie!

Let's hope that never gets made into a whole movie. It's a known fact that videogames made into movies more often than not fails epically on several levels (examples: Max Payne, Hitman). I'll admit to not having seen the Doom movie, but I'd wager it probably isn't any better. In fact, it probably is worse, as the protagonist in the game is mute.
Just like Gordon Freeman.

For once, I agree with Afr0. But there are a few exceptions:

Pokemon was originally a game, and the cartoon is one of the best cartoons of my childhood, and the films were pretty good too.

Final Fantasy The Spirits Within was ok, but Advent Children was awesome (although it felt a little like it had the plot of a TV film rather then a big block buster)!

If I had to scrape the barrel, then I'd also bring up Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, as they were at least entertaining.

A Half Life film would be great if it was done properly. The problem with game based films is that the potential audience is often stereotyped as low-grade cattle who want to watch big explosions and cheap effects, rather than receive a deep and thought-provoking experience. If it were directed by say Christopher Nolan, or J. J. Abrams, then I'm sure it would turn out excellent.

Valve did say they once got writers to do scripts for a Half Life film, but they were all terrible so they didn't go ahead with it. They also once hinted that the Team Fortress 2 Meet the Team videos were experiments in film making with game assets, as they reached the conclusion that any Half Life film would need to be made by them (although the chances of one ever being made are practically nil).

Max Payne and Hitman are two of the better videogame films. If you want bad pick either of the Street Fighter films, or Super Mario Bros.
I've not even seen the Tekken or DOA films, I just assume they're terrible.
The Dungeon Siege film is about as tedious and dull as the game, so excellent work by Uwe Boll, there.

Plus I think a lot of game franchises, namely Half Life and Deus Ex, would work better as high-budget TV series then as films.

someone took their time to make sure and act out that piece.

A very good job. I never finished that game.

I haven't seen the Super Mario Bros movie, but heard it's supposed to be terrible.
I actually want to see the Final Fantasy movie.

Edit: As for directors, I'd say Quentin Tarantino or Steven Spielberg would be the most likely candidates to bring justice to Half Life.

I didn't watch the Mario movie until about a year or two ago.
It's not Mario...

But I think I went in knowing that, and not expecting a Mario movie in the slightest.
As such, I actually kinda got a kick out of the fact that I was watching a really oddball movie, with frequent references to the Mario universe.

Still shit, but kinda fun in that "I probably shouldn't be watching this" sort of way.
