JL235	Yes there needs to be more controls over extraditing people to the US, but if you are encouraging illegal activity on your website, then you should be responsible for that (emphasis on if you are encouraging it). This is actually one of the issues that makes shutting down sites that link to clearly illegal content, such as child pornography, difficult to stop. Often they technically don't don't host the content, but only provide the means for you to go and find it.

JL235	Although I would also say that the best solution is better business models and to make it easier to distribute content out to users. That is what will really kill piracy, whilst giving the producers a way of profiting from their work. We are seeing a fall in piracy, or at least a lack of growth, due to services like Steam, BBC iPlayer, GrooveShark, Spotify, and others who simply provide better systems for delivering content.

spinal	I know the site revolved around linking to copyrighted material, but what bugs me, is that if you do something in your own country that is perfectly legal, no other country should have any right to have you extradited to their own country to face charges for the same act. That's like me crossing the road without using a specifically designated crossing zone. Here in the UK, that isn't a problem, but perhaps I should get extradited to the US where I can be charged with jaywalking. \|edit\| Also, surely it would be better to use this site as a tool to track down the uploaders? I would have thought that someone pointing out where all these copyrighted videos are hosted, would cut out a lot of work that the copyright holders will now have to do themselves. -=-=- Check out my excellent homepage!

But whatever they rule is only valid within the US borders, so requires a court order valid in the UK in order to be valid there. Edit: Just to make it clear; A few years ago, filesharing was still legal in Sweden. Piratebay was sued in the US all the time, but it didn't have any effect because whatever decisions were passed in US courts didn't have any effects on the Swedish legal system.
