Day Twenty One

Yesterday..
0% Creativity, 100% Copying

I said a while back that Petit Switch can use the IR Camera on the JoyCon, and that that could, potentially be used as a transfer tool, but that I hadn't got around to making anything, yet.
And so, line by line, level by level, I sat and copied level data from a PC generator, over to the Switch, using my good old fashioned 1980s Magazine Type-In skills.

> Reveal 🔎

I think I should probably make that tool, now..

Meanwhile....

Things I've done.
Blitz
1. Coded a transfer program to convert bytes into a 4x2 grid of white rectangles, and have a "Frame Number" on the upper and lower 4x1 grid
2. Take string of chars, or array of bytes, send out a "Data Type" announcement, followed by the string of data.

Flash Flash Flash!

Petit Switch
1. Coded the reader program, vaguely. Unsure as to how well the IRCamera can be held in place, I used the smallest scale available, which reads in an 8x6 array of data based on roughly what the IRCamera's seeing.
2. Coded a quick test to output this data onto the screen.
3. Held up my hand to the camera and did the scissors test to test my "camera" was working.
Yeay!

Next step, hold the camera up to the screen, and ..
...
Aah..

... You knew this, Jay..

You knew this because the IR Camera on the WiiMote doesn't pick up the TV, does it.
God damnit, Jay, you're a fucking idiot..

Does the switch have a browser or any kind of app where you can screenshot something and get this inside petit? I am curious as I might get a switch in the future. Knowing you there probably is a good reason you are having difficulties.

No browser access, no.
The only way I can see viable to access external data, is to rely on the 3DS methods. PetitCom4 (the Switch one) can access PeitiCom3 (the 3DS one) projects, but won't run them due to hardware differences, like dealing with JoyCons, not having a 3D screen, and so on.

People tend to use older methods to get stuff to the 3DS project, then upload that, then download it on the Switch and convert it..
I was really hoping to not need to faff about that much.

Never mind..
This is my 32nd game, and I've so far not needed to import data, so.. I'll ignore it and carry on without.

Of course, if I made use of LEDs and an Arduino...
...

A task for another day, perhaps..

Day 21. Creativity supplies running low as we near the end! After spending a while pondering if there was anything substantially different to my previous shaders that I could try, I decided that something was better than nothing, so threw together this Julia fractal animation. Not exactly 'creative' since it's mostly just looking at the maths on Wikipedia, but hey, it's fun to look at for 30 seconds...

That is really nice, especially when they cluster at just the right point.
Mmm.. Fractals..

Chugs a bit on my crappy laptop, though. (Crappy laptop is crappy!)

Day 22 is a simple follow-up to yesterday's fractal. I picked a particular fractal (though you can pick a different one by changing the value of c), and you can drag out a rectangle with the mouse to zoom in on that rectangle. Of course, fractals being self-similar, nothing much really changes (until you get down to the floating-point boundary and it becomes blocky). Maybe I should've done something with more variety like the Mandelbrot Set...

That's nice enough.
Could perhaps do with a ratio-lock so the "pixels" when zooming at a bit more 1:1, but other than that it's lovely.

Day Twenty Three

After Saturday's disaster of a day, I opted to try my hand at something that I could at least manage to finish off without catastrophic failure.

Blitz3D, because.. Of course I'm still using B3D for 3D things!!

I really like that snowglobe.

I'd love to have full control to move in and out of it and look around the city in the snow

That's really great, but it really does ruin the snow effect, with it just being wrapped around the city. We need snow IN the city

Yeah, I wasn't in the mood to try doing that again!
I tried it last year and just ended up with horrible little square things that kinda warped nastily within a limited area inside the dome... my maths-fu was on a break!!

Ooh, that's a lovely snowglobe. I do love a good cityscape!

Day 23: As previously mentioned, my creativity has hit a brick wall as we approach the end. So... here's a brick wall!

That's bricks, alright!

Now turn it into a chimney and have a fat bastard santa trying to squeeze down it!!

I pressed PLAY on the wall, hoping to see some graffiti appear

As for the snowglobe, yeah, I can understand just how difficult the maths would be to move and contain the snow within the globe.

Day Twenty Four

Spent most of yesterday struggling to come up with a nice Xmassy Foldapuz puzzle, but eventually gave up trying.
Instead, then, I finished off this week's ALChoon, uploaded it, and called it a day on the "Walking" ALBum.

Walking Zigzag is vaguely Xmassy

And I think that's me all creativitied out for the year!

Merry Xmas, all!

And here we are at the end! For Day 24, I decided to play with the font texture that ShaderToy provides to let you do text. So here's a little Christmas message to finish things off.
