50 lines = 5 frames at 10 lines...
The printer at work is a colour laser printer, so probably 600 or 1200 dpi or something like that, no problem there. It's just going to be a case of sizing the image.

Maybe print a set of stripes with pixels at different sizes, then see which looks best against it. Then you should be able to tell what ppi resolution the final pic should be,

A 256x256 image, a 320, 384, 448, 512 and up, all printed at the same physical size on the page, each with a set of ... say 8 coloured repeating single-pixel strips.

Ordered the 50lpi a4 sheet. Lets see how this pans out.

o/k, work printer prints at 600 or 1200 dpi, so on 1200 thats 24 dots per line? So I could do 6 frames with each slice being 4 dots high...?

..I wonder if I can create an image with 1px == 1dot...

|edit|

1200/6 frames = 200 ?

Another number to throw into the mix -- CD cover = 12cm^2

so...
50 lines per inch at 6 pixels per line = 300 pixels per inch ? x 4.75in = 1425x1425px image?

OK, here's the test image.

Next step, check with the boss tomorrow if I can use the work printer for such a pointless exercise...

Better idea, amazon has some 3rd party ink (£4.02 including postage) for the printer that's been sat doing nothing for 10 years (because the ink was so expensive) which is still compatible with windows 10.

So that'll do me for as many tests as I need

The lenticular sheet came, it's thicker than I expected but still fits nicely inside a cd case.

Just need to think about either upscaling that gif, finding a blu-ray ripper and see if I can grab a better copy, or hand animating the album cover that you can find on google.

Should it be horizontal or vertical?

I think horizontal lines will work best, less chance of crossover as eyes are usually placed horizontally...

I'm just trying to think of animated lenticular things, and whether I wiggled them left/right or up/down.
.. The only example I can think of is a Pac-Man Ghost Pin-badge from Lootcrate.
That's a left/right vertical wiggle..

I mean, you're right.. That definitely is how eyes work..
The problem, however, is that you're going to have to line the pixels up a LOT better if you want crisp horizontal lines to work.
With vertical lines, you get a little bit of "Oh, it's your eyes doing that..." leeway to cheat the effect.

Gawd, my room's a right sodding mess.

Apparently my printer resolution is 5,760 x 1,440 DPI...

As I'm planning on printing horizontal lines, that gives 115.2 dots per line...

I need to create some sort of calibration image as apparently these sheets lpi is only proximate and can easily be up to 0.5 lpi different either way. Looks like I'll need to create a giant image at fill printer resolution with a test pattern.

It's going to be square, so you can print the image rotated and get more lines.

@Spinal - good luck

BTW I still haven't watched the film

I did watch the new Mulan movie though (which was great - it would have been better without a lot of really stupid CGI and air-fighting) and God-awful-zilla: King Of The Monsters. That was fecking shite.

well, after days of searching, I finally found a website with information that actually still exists. Not only that, the software is still there!

After a morning of googling, then a quick mask made in psp7, then a quick program in blitz3d, then some manual flood filling....

I realized that I should have select which frames to use THEN cleaned them up, instead of doing literally 10 times the amount of work I need to

That gif was created from this

part of excellent adventure at the end when they're signing the CD for Rufus.
