 		MS do tonnes of good products, it's just IE that's gone crap. It used to be the best but they have just lost it over the last few years. I think they should hand it over to the office team to do it up.

 		I've always wandered how it is the Microsoft stuff gets so buggy. Internet Explorer is extremely slow, but we've seen through Google Chrome that very fast speeds are possible, so why don't Microsoft try to make it faster instead of adding more features? And why does Windows crash so much, when other systems have shown that stability can be achieved in an OS? I guess that lies in the fact that each Windows OS has more and more little background apps running, which at some point are bound to conflict with one another. So why don't Microsoft do anything about it?

 		With some setups yeah, but I generally don't find Windows to be that unstable. My current Windows setup on my eee has never crashed, ever. It's also never required a forced shutdown (i.e. holding down the power button). My PC at work has never crashed, but once or twice has required a forced shutdown (although one time was because the application I was running would disable the mouse and keyboard at certain points, and one time it locked up during this period).

I've also had plenty of Linux setups that crash horribly. I'm not saying one is better then the other, my point is that any OSs can be both stable and unstable. It all really depends on the software installed and how it's maintained. The ultra slow and unstable Windows setups I've seen were always run by people who took very bad care of their PC.

But in general I'd say a Windows install out of the box with some typical default software provided by the vendor (i.e. Dell or PC World) is typically better setup and more stable then most Linux distros out of the box.

 		I am truly honored, CodersRule I rarely experience such things and I can't imagine that other operating systems are flawless either. Besides, I find that the benefits of using Windows outweigh the problems.

Often it is third-party device drivers that crash Windows. Linux with fglrx crashes too damn often too!

 		Yeah my Windows setup is pretty stable within itself, aswell. I use both Windows and Linux, but prefer to work on Windows, I've exploded Linux countless times, but have never blue screened windows on this machine.

 		There was an interview with a driver developer at Windows on Channel 9 once. He said they analyse the blue screens that people get and it was something like less then 10% are as a result of MS code. Over 70% were due to bad drivers.

 		Yeah, I've never had an issue with just windows itself, it was always wonky driver support or me playing around in areas I shouldn't be. I'm not a windows fan boy by far, as I do agree it's bloated and slower than other OS's, but i have my fair share of complaints for each of the major 3 that i'll keep for another day. I'm slightly sick of an underlying fanboyism that always rears it's ugly head. Something broke in an OS? You should use Blah. Don't you think we know this already? Then ask yourself why we haven't switched.
