No

Although, I'm actually quite tempted to cancel the new PC, and instead get a similarly priced MacMini... But then.. .. The family system would be a Mac!! Not sure how the family would cope with that.

If you get a mac you can get the iPhone SDK and that means money!

You might get lucky too and make so much that you can quit your job!

You think I'm kidding Jay, but there are thousands of success stories on the App Store where your average Joe hit it off big and made a lot of money.

It could happen!

Still need to get something off the ground, first, though.
Win possibilities?

I read somewhere that you need to use Objective-C, and something by the name of Cocoa ( some sort of framework I think), the same article said you also need to be running Leopard OS.

Other than that I think it's buisiness model is similar to XBox Live Indie Games where you pay about £60 for a years subscription.

|edit| I also read somewhere that even an old fossilized cheap Mac is fine for the job |edit|

The language is Objective-C and you'll need Leopard or greater. It's $100 per year for a developer license. Apple takes 30% of the profits and you keep the rest.

To avoid getting a mac, try looking in to a Hackintosh.

That's why Apple is bad people. Noone should make you pay to develop software for their platform. And I know that Apple does compatibility tests before they deploy it, but if I want to run unsanitized sketchy software then I should have the right to!

Apple isn't charging you to develop on their platform, they are charging you if you want to sell in their App Store. Apple isn't the only one who does this either--Microsoft is also guilty. The SDK is free to download and you can produce any program you want on the iPhone.

Unity iPhone

Not free, but there are published games with it. Just an option.
