I wonder how or why this continuity error would exist! Although the scenes are at opposite ends of the film, they would typically be shot together as it allows them to only use the set, props and actors once.

|edit| Ah, it's a deliberate error due to Marty changing the past. Wikipedia has cleared this up for me. |edit|

Wow, that really went unnoticed? Now I wonder how many other people never noticed that.
Aside from the fading-picture-people, the treatment of cause-and-effect in time travel in that series is one of the main reasons I've always liked it!
