When I get so into the code that I'm overwhelmed by it, I tend to take a couple of days off.
Usually I read a book. Reading tends to help focus my mind a bit more than watching TV or playing games.

Then after a couple of days, get right back into the code again. Your mind should feel a little relaxed and you should be able to focus better on the task at hand.

Oh, and if need a little motivation to carry on with the project, try posting a few screenshots/mockups, and we'll all go "Whooo, Yeah! Do that!!! Finish it!"

take most things in moderation.

I'm getting back into Python and also pygame.
And I just love it. Yet, I'm taking things slow and
gradual. Little by little. Bit by bit...byte by byte.

And my lifting and working out.
Sometimes, I want to do it almost every day.
Like I'm not doing enough. Yet, without giving anything
away....I use high intensity. The workouts are small
and don't last very long. Yet, I can truly feel and experience the pump and workout too.
Its sorta like and simialr to woking out on the Nautilus
machines and especially the pressurized air machines too.
The ones that use psi and you adjust it for both push and pull and other movements too.

This is simply stress caused by the anxiety of trying to wrap your head around the complexity of a game and whip it out in time. It happens to me when I set deadlines or have to reach them with something programing related... usually it only involves me losing sleep for the most part.
Don't ever let a coding project consume you... that light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train most of the time.
Here's what I do:
1)forget about your deadline(your life and school matter more)
2) do something else for a few weeks... forget about how your code works (it will help alot when you go back to it and realize what weird mistakes you've made)
3)go and get a easier hobby(or spend more time with your gf )
4a)commit yourself to that hobby... I personally play computer FPS's in my spare time(about 1 hours a day) and honestly haven't touched any non-school related coding projects in about 4 months.
4b)don't touch MMORPG's... this is another thing that I've personally vowed never to do b/c I've seen it personally ruin other peoples lives.
5)calm down and take life in stride... most of what happens happens for a reason and you there are many many others like you out their in the world with just as much stress, and if you can be more friendly and calm under stress you will get that nice raise more likly later on in life

I completely disagree. Take advantage of your new found obsessive-compulsive disorder and finish the project.

Although seriously, sleep is very important. Set aside 8 hours at a proper time (say from 10pm till 6am) and then code like mad whilst your awake. But stop coding 4/5 hours before you next go to sleep, as I find if I code loads I'll dream about programming, and it's horrible. 8 hours of forced Java is definately a nightmare.

Prioritize and make some kind of a balance.
Maybe, some kind of schedule or planner
to organize your thoughts,interests, plans.
Yet, nothing set in stone. Allow flexibility
