I must admit, their "SteamBox" reveal (Now branded "Steam Machine") was a bit of a letdown. It's not a single unit, and is instead a "We'll let the manufacturers make whatever the fuck they want" Android-style approach, which IMO pretty much kills the whole bloody point of it. I didn't think it was that bad. It seems what they're going for is more of a mix-up of the better features of a console and a PC, while encouraging hardware manufacturers to make their stuff work better with Linux, rather than just "we're making a console now".

Valve have always said that they would offer a couple of tiers of box themselves, which would serve as a standard, but that anyone could build anything they wanted. Only thing that's changed is the name. -=-=- All the raw, animal magnetism of a rutabaga.

It just felt like a none-announcement, much like Sony's "big PS4 reveal". "Hey, we can make a box! We won't show you the box!! Awesomeness!!!" When a company does a "hardware reveal" they need three things. 1. Price 2. Date 3. The fucking hardware, for fuck sake!! -=-=- ''Load, Next List!''

True enough. They still don't have the hardware together, necessarily. They are sending out beta versions for testing. You could be a tester! There's a thing on Steam to sign up. Don't get your hopes up, though - when I signed up there were 78,000 people qualified already, and the sign-up is open until October 25. And they're sending out 300 boxes.
