finally got around to shifting 50GB of crap from HD to NAS. 10 hours over wifi! got lappy in kitchen now with ethernet cable. down to about 1hr.

Wifi's no good for file movement tasks! Handy for everything else, but when you've got big file numbers, it gets stupidly slow.

I have a spare ethernet cable dangling near my bed, for just such emergencies!

4G was like 10 times faster then wifi was it not? I remembering reading something like this.

4G typically costs about 67 billion times more.
I certainly wouldn't like to see the cost of moving 50Gb over it.

I'd love to get a network cable from the router to my office, but doing so would involve lifting carpets and floor boards, drilling holes, which I'm not prepared to take on.

Fortunately there are only very rare occasions (like today) where I need to shift 50GB at a time, so wifi generally does me just fine. That said, a nice top-end powerline setup might be a good compromise. I have my CCTV connected from the garage via powerline and it works pretty well, even for streaming video.

I remember hearing that WiFi is quickly becoming the de-facto standard for data transfer, highly unlikely at this rate!

EOP is great, we've got it at our place. Save putting in cables and messing around, just plug in the devices - done
