..because Windows is an absolute mess!
Is it "installed" (unzipped, that's it), is it "installed" (.msi installer), or is it "installed" (self made installer exe)?

MacOS is, honestly, no better. The AppStore helps, but of the tools I use, maybe 20% have been actually installed from there. Everything else has been downloaded and installed manually.

I think I'll try a 'clone and realign and optimize' software first, but if I notice any stuttering or anything..... format, install windows.... reinstall manually everything...

Be sure to make an "2021-Install" folder on your backup drive (....?) and copy every zip/exe you download into there, as you're installing.
Gets messy after a few years of doing that, but it's infinitely easier to get everything back, at a later date.

Cloned the drive, with option to realign the sectors for SSD use. Changed a couple of windows settings to reduce disk writes.
Had a nightmare reconnecting the original windows drive as a secondary drive. Set the main drive in the bios to be the SSD, but whenever I plugged in the old drive, the machine decided to not bother with that setting and boot from the old drive. Then my monitor refused to work until windows had half loaded, so I had to migrate to the other room and use the TV to even get into the bios and disable the drive from the boot options. Finally got that sorted and wiped.
All is good again and taking <10seconds from power button to windows loaded.

Eeek.
Glad you got it working, though.

Maybe time for a clearcut, though?!
