Just wondering, Does anyone know a good (or rather simple) way to convert a c64 .sid music file to an Amiga protracker .mod? I can convert the .sid to a .mid and it sounds quite good, but I still cannot turn the .mid to a .mid for use on the DS. The only way I can think of right now, is to convert the mid by hand, and that will take ages. -=-=- Check out my excellent homepage!

The problem with .sid format is that it not only explains the notes within the Tracks but also the type of sound that should be produced.. Unlike mods which only use certain instruments. What you'd need to do is to first create a bank of Sid-like instruments, and then retrack the mod bit by bit. It's easier with a midi because the standard midi list has so many possible instruments that you can get a "Rough" sounding approximation. But with mods it's just so much harder. It really is a "By ear" thing you're going to have to try to do. Either that, or head over to ModArchive. They have a forum full of dedicated mod artists, and perhaps some kind soul wouldn't mind reproducing the .sid for you! -=-=- ''Load, Next List!''

Not sure if this fits your description but the file extensions do. MODPlug Tracker can open .MID files (as well as .IT .XM .MOD and 12 others that I've not heard of) and will save to .IT .MOD .S3M .XM and will even make a .WAV of your tune. It's been my Tracker of choice since I upgraded to WinXP and FastTracker stopped working properly and now it's free and open source. Not that I've used it since BlitzCoder but I'm back now so anything's possible

I have made little progress, mostly cos of my limited musical knowledge. I have managed to convert the .sid to a midi, it sounded ok when played in media player, but when i tried converting it to a .mod using sidplay2w, most of the pitch bends didn't come through. So I re-converted the sid one channel at a time, now I have 2 midis converted to .mods usinf finemidi, seems a good program. My next step it to paste 'em back together in modplug. The pitch bends didn't come out again, so a little guesswork is in order to figure out the proper notes.
