I've been thinking of an idea lately, but I don't have in my collection the board game 'Guess Who?' Does anyone know of a website that I can download the cards from this board game? I would scan them myself but I don't have the game...

um...Spinal,

I wouldn't recommend that.
Hasbro owns the Board Game and I wouldn't
touch them with a 10 foot pole.

Habro has been know know to take collect
from people and companies from both a legal
and perceived observation of copyright
infringement.

perhaps from this link
of many.....

What PM says may be true...(Except it's Milton Bradley! Haha!)

Anyways, I was able to find mine buried in the basement. Not the best quality...some creases and stuff. It is the old version from '87 mind you. If you can't find anything better, I'm sure these would work for now. Using copyrighted materials is fine for your project. It's when you release it that you have to worry...I guess.

As above, I'd be very wary about doing it, but then again, I've used Mario sprites plenty of times.. I guess our little circle's so small that no-one ever noticed!

Personally I'd try and create my own card set.. ..

Whatever happened to Cardwar?

Creases and retro quality old school, "dug ot of the basment" board game. I noticed some of the tiles are also out of alignment. Brilliant, that would give the game a more realistic feel to it .

perhaps I was mistaken.
Last I knew Hasbro owned the GuessWho board
game...maybe Mattel acquired it or got some
sort of license.
oh well and how funny and ironic
that my mom told me she finally rented out
and saw the Transformers movie.
And I told her that Mattel owns it
and she corrected me and said the Hasbro owns the franchise.

again, be wary.
And couldn't you make your own, Spinal?

|edit| and really cool pictures, blanko. |edit|

I think that during the 1970's and 1980's, it had the MB Games logo on the box.

Though a lot of board games had MB Games on the box, so don't take it as gospel. I might be mistaken.

the game gospel
according to the Apostle Ancell.

the poweful Google unwrapped
from Wikipedia will shed some light:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guess_Who%3F

so you and blanko are right.
First manufactured by Milton Bradley...then later
acquired by Hasbro.

I have learned something new today.

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like MB Games is an acronym for Milton Bradley, who were taken over by Hasbro. So basicly, they are all of the same company.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milton_Bradley_Company

|edit| Or MB could be an acronym for McLoughlin Brothers |edit|

yes, you're right.

and just as Vivendi Activision merged
with Blizzard...
and Pop Cap games is also acquiring indie
game companies and developers too...

|edit| I don't mind and even welcome Pop Cap
and even Activision to buy and acquire power mouseys' services too.

Excellent blanko, thanks. I will use 'em until I half finish the project, if I ever think about releasing it, the I assume re-drawing the cards would be best.

*Please feel free to argue over who currently owns the rights to the board game.

I'm going to use the original cards for a while, then (once the game actually does something) I'll bribe/beg some artists to come up with some new faces, also I assume there would be problems using the name, so I'll have to change that as well. Perhaps something like "Who am I?".

I've been trying to think up some questions and possible answers for this, as it would all have to be pre-defined. I have only came up with the following though...

Nose - Big / Small
Hat - Yes / No
Glasses - Yes / No
Hair - Blond / Red / Brown / Black / White / Bald / Parting Left / Parting Right
Beard - No / Half / Full
Mustache - Yes / No
Eyes - Blue / Green / Brown
Cheeks - Rosey / Not Rosey
Lips - Big / Little

Can anyone think of any others?

Nothing else springs to mind.

The images above are the exact images that I remember from my childhood, but Googling it, they seem to change the chrs fairly frequently.

They currently look like they'd fit in with the characters from Pigeon Street!

I can remember it a bit from the mid 80's, quite amazing as I usually cant remember what I did two days ago.

You've also got... (variations in yellow)

Hair - Long / Short
Face - Oval / Square / Round
Expression - Smile / Frown
Mouth - Large / Small
Lips - Fat / Thin
Nose - Big / Small / Long and Narrow

You could go as far as ribbons in hair and flowers in hat but they are unique features (based on those cards). Can you ask about their name?

The main point would be to guess who they are (their name), I was thinking of having that question as a once only ask and having a win/lose outcome. However my girlfriend is reminding me that it was possible (although slow) to play the whole game by just asking the names of the people, so perhaps I'll go that way.

I was thinking either "starts with letter...", "ends with letter..." "Contains letter..." I don't remember ever using it myself but it was a thought that came to me. Otherwise specifically stating a name would be win/lose. Perhaps it could be restricted to one question (which ever of the three, you can only use one) and only while more than half the cards remain. Something like that. Depends on the names whether "begins with" and "ends with" are worth allowing though because they could eliminate too many (mind you, there aren't many wearing hats so that's a good one to start with)

|edit| Just had a quick look and most variations have 4 or 5 occurrences (hat, glasses, hair colour) |edit|

I don't think thread "necromancy" necessarily is a bad thing. An old post may still be very relevant.

There could be a little red piece of text at the top of the page saying that the topic is an old one though, so that unknowing and innocent readers can know (another one to add to the advent-feature-list thingy ).

|edit| And no Spinal, I don't have it either. |edit|
