I don't like it. What's the point? People never say anything interesting in shout boxes.

|edit| I just found a paging bug. Try posting a reply to this topic and you'll see. Probably. |edit|

Although the page number will be wrong, the "Last Page (seenpost=last)" should show "25 posts up to the last", as opposed to the usual "From post (X-1)*25"
.. Or something like that!

If I hadn't done that, then I'd have to figure out which #'d post was the post you posted, and then which page on the topic you posted to is the page that should be shows so that the post you've posted is shown on the page of the topic.... Based on your posts-per-page figure...

I like the site as it is - like Jay said about not wanting to bother with all those extra clicks to get places.

Just thought it may come in handy for stuff like links to news pages on other sites, or links that any of us might only want to see once.

It may save a bit of server storage space.

.. Dang, looks like I'm doing that, then!

*claps excitedly!*

Hope you'll release a nice tutorial on using the interface too!
And while we're on the subject of improvements to the site:
Maybe you could implement a SoCoder API? I have no freaking clue what it would consist of, but I know that Facebook and YouTube and other such sites have their APIs...

Edit;
If you exposed the code for rendering the avatars, me or Instinct could implement the 3D avatar idea into an ASP .NET script that could be loaded into Firefox... or something!

1. You won't need a tutorial!

2. Well, if you don't even know what the API would do, why even bother to have it? You just want something branded "API" don't you..
OK then.. Let's call the Highscore thing "TEH AMEZING SCOOODER HIGHSCORING API!"

3. Like I said, if we have 3D gubbins popping up on my screen, this poor poor celeron will explode. It struggles with Youtube, ffs!

Which is why it would be neat to have a script to display 3D avatars if you wanted to/could! Otherwise, it'd just display the normal 2D avatars or a default 2D avatar...

Edit: If you absolutely have to have some more gubbins for this API, I'll think of something else...

Edit: If this 3D avatar script was implemented properly, we could use WoW characters as avatars! Like on Thottbot!!

Edit: Oh yeah, and with this API thing it'd also be kinda neat to be able to write your own programs that'd plug into some kinda sidebar on here like on Facebook. That way you could write programs for sending yellow and pink leprechauns to your friends, musicplayers, rate-your-friend etc, etc

Ok, let me put it in the "Not being Polite Jay, because Polite Jay doesn't seem to be getting through" way.

3D avatars, fucking stupid idea. Animated avatars are really fucking annoying. Having stupid 3D swirling happy moving running jumping stupid fucking things everywhere will be 100000000 times more fucking annoying.

API, fucking stupider idea. This isn't fucking Facebook.

Hehe... anyway, I was wondering... it seems like a year or so since the last SoCode-Awards, so will we be doing that again soon? So long as more people vote, that is...

|edit| In fact, looking around the dark corners of the site, I see lots of things that could be revived... pick of the week, outside competitions, stuff like that... |edit|

how about a selection box in profile for the latest post that lets you choose which forums a user wants to see.
Rather than seeing them all.

If it were busy that might be worth it, but given we have about 5 posts a day, if that... Is it really worth doing?

Top of the screen, members bar - the highlighted icons are the mudchat peoples. It various by what icon scheme you're using, though...

Maybe a persistent MUDchat, could be nice... I hate navigating away from it.

Other than that, the site is functional. I agree with Jay on the 3D avs thing. One, i don't like a shitload of Java APIs running in the background. Two, imagine our friends who still use 56k. Three, Really! Does ANYONE really give that much of a shit about your avatar? do you need it to be cartwheeling around being an overall nuisance for everyone for people to be like 'Wow, that is totally amazing'? that's about as bad as asking Jay to put a "happy", "fun" "game" that randomly drops a loud noise into a page of choice that blares every 5 seconds until you answer a quiz about 60's television shows. Keep it simple, and keep it functional. Aesthetics are always back burner in my mind.

PS: Jay - Quoted "This isn't fucking Facebook."

*edit* Jay, since people seem gung-ho about the 3D avs, may i have permission to put 10,000 animated gifs in my signature? I promise i'll keep them no less than 200 frames and no less than 3mb in size.

I think MySpace works more appropriately.

At least I can view peoples profiles on Facebook without my computer going in panic mode.

Albeit Facebook is a cluttered mess, they even tried to address it's cluttered-messedness by admitting to it and busting things into smaller group.

Then I laugh at MySpace for copying that freakin' apps idea, guh...

it seems to me that we don't need to change anything since every idea is always declined by others.

That's not true. The SoCoder API/3D avatars were declined for obvious reasons, and if there is a majority who wants a shoutbox I guess it'll be added. The scoreboards were added, no?

The worst part about MySpace apps is that they allow javascript to be coded in the app. Talk about a serious security flaw.

Does the Mudchat actually work for everyone!?

Works fine here, albeit can get a little glitched out at times, Random enters, sometimes dropping what i said / double posting... hard to duplicate, but overall it works

Jay: The high score thing is awesome!
