Refer to this if you don't believe me.

If you shared the password you used on bb.com with another site, you should be changing that password immediately. If not, you're probably fine- granted, your e-mail may be potentially harvested and your name may be in yet another spam database, but considering this applies to everyone on the internet, I'd say there's no great loss.

Considering BRL does not directly handle payment for their products, your financial information is about as safe as always (which basically means you should be more concerned about ShareIt right now), so unless you put your paypal login, password, and such in your account, you're fine.

Who would want to hack BB.com?!
I mean, sure, there are idiots out there who, for one reason or another, seem to hate the idea of Blitz..
But to go so far as to hack the site?
Seems a bit daft, for a programming language.

On a related note, with RetroRemakes going, last month, and BB.com this month, I'm entering Super-Paranoid-Mode.
If some things suddenly stop working like they're meant to, assume I'm building extra site security!

What a waste of time. What happened to hacking being about taking down the big guy? Maybe those punks should stop wasting time trying to take down honest indie developers and get a real job. The worst thing blitz ever did to me was get me interested in further development, which is I'm sure the same for just about everybody here. Stupid hackers... build something instead of breaking us all down!

I would guess that the reason for hacking BB.com would be this. People expressing their reactions towards the attack, an incarnation of the hacker's success. This is nevertheless a really lame move. Sometimes the anonymity on the Internet shows its dark sides a wee bit too much.

Let's hope that SoCoder is hack-proof.

For me it's the pointlessness of it. Hacking the UK MSN site (which was done a year or two ago) is interesting and (in one sense) a public service by pointing out the security flaws.

Hacking a small niche site with the aim of destroying it is quite different.

Are you sure that it was hacked?

Are they still in business?

A day on, and still no change.
That's rather worrying.
You'd have thought that, at the very least, a basic temporary forum would've been set up.

I think part of the problem is that the whole site is home coded by Mark, so he'll have to work out how it was hacked and fix it before he can put it back up, otherwise it'll just happen again.

I wonder if he'll move over to a commercial forum package after this ?

it's just painful because it's unclear how extensive this damage really is. What if we lose all of the modules, userlibs, sample code, showcases? God that would suck...

Bastard hackers, hope you choke.

All will not be lost - they must have regular back-ups and, if not, I have a back-up of the website that I made from 20th Jan 09 to 22nd Jan 09. So, it is only about a month old.

Mine weighs in at 933 MB; however, it does not include any images people may have posted on the forums - ie in the Graphics Showcase.

As long as the core files are safe, then thats good. There's a substantial amount of code and media that would be horrible to lose.

Based on the current state of the site, I'm guessing they have up to some time in December.

I have packed the forums into a WinRar archive (.rar) - the filesize of the archive is 104 MB; HOWEVER, it upacks to 534 MB.

This snapshot of the forums is from 20th Jan 09 to 22nd Jan 09.

There are no graphics/images in the archive (except the BRL logo) - it is pretty much 42,000+ html files.

I have not included the Code Archives, Worklogs Toolbox, Manuals, etc. sections. I can probably do these as separate, individual, archives.

Once unpacked, you just double-click on the index.html file - don't worry, the 42,000+ html files are in a separate directory.

In a nutshell this archive is purely the main forums and their sub forums:

BlitzMax
BlitzMax Modules
Blitz3D
Blitz3D SDK
BlitzPlus
Miscellaneous

I can't split the forums up as the html files are all in a cluster - sorry.

It's worth downloading and keeping for the future even if you don't plan to unpack it - you never know when you will lose your internet connection or the site will be down.

I'LL POST BACK LATER WHEN THE ARCHIVE HAS BEEN HOSTED FOR DOWNLOAD.

The first place I am uploading to is Rapidshare.com - it will probably take an hour or two to upload.

and down again
Why the hell blitz? There are so many bigger and more popular sites... what good could this do for the hackers, or was it just for fun. Sure, they might be able to get peoples usernames and passwords, but there cant be that many blitz users so why target them?

They're probably halfway through sorting it, but didn't want folk in whilst they did it..
It's 403-forbidden, now.
