I was just going to post this as a cool vid, but then I realised how much fun it would be.

Look up Farbrausch, they've pioneered this.

That is amazing!

They didn't pioneer, this has been going since way-back when.. Elite (BBC/Acorn/etc) used it to generate an entire galaxy, but I'm 95% sure that wasn't the first, either.

I love this sort of thing, I've made a start on something for my next cobra demo. You can follow the (possibly slow) progress here

Neat.
Although I had to log in to see it!
But neat!

I see you bothered to do the building-niceness stuff, as opposed to my "Just plonk boxes down" method of doing things

Ah, oops. I thought that was in the open section must move it

Yeah, working on the building builder at the moment. They are a mixed bag at the moment, but I've got a few nice ideas to make them less generic (half nicked from that video, I have to admit).

I've written some code to generate walkways/bridges, which look OK, but not come up with a good way of joining them to things (part of it will have to wait until I work out the best way to lay down roads, as I don't really want to just do the standard square lattice. I'm aiming for somewhere between the video, and the stuff these guys are doing... Not sure how successful I'll be, but it's fun..

For the sake of making it look nice, I may end up with predrawn textures rather than generating them at runtime, but that is a little way off. I want the city to look citylike first...

Nice video. I think he should expand on his idea and also make a daylight scene, and swap back and forth. But then we're going down an endless path after that, until you're making a full world out of it...

I'd like to see what you can come up with, squeakyduck.
