Socoder -> On Topic -> ATI cards, anygood?

I'm currently eyeing up two potential PCs to buy. The first has a Geforce 9800GT whilst the second has an ATI Radeon HD4850 for an extra £23. According to Tom's Hardware Guide the ATI is far faster at anti-aliasing and handling large resolutions then the Geforce, so it's the one I'd prefer to get.

However as a general rule I do not buy ATI cards. I've heard they have dodgy drivers and are more prone to break over time. I've never had a Geforce card die on me and even on very old cards I've had no issues with dual-monitors (which I cannot live without).

So do you run an ATI card? Have you ever had any issues with it? Especially have you ever run a second monitor with your ATI card? Were there any issues (there was with a friend of mine, but that was years ago)?

I've had nothing but NVidia, but the PC I recently ordered to replace "The Crappy Celeron ©" (WHERE THE HELL IS IT ALREADY!?) does indeed have an ATI. (same, 4850, IIRC)

I figured it's probably not a bad idea to at least have one, for testing purposes, but I'm a bit of a loyal NVidia guy...
By now, they'd probably not have issues, right?
Maybe!?
*shrugs*

Getting one, whenever it turns up, so I guess I'll find out soon enough.

ATI historically has had dodgy driver support, but NVidia is pretty much gone now so any new technology is going to come from ATI.

I run an ATI card, and I haven't had any problems with it at all. On the contrary, I have had an Nvidia card break. In the end I think the criticism boils down to fanboyism and memories of what drivers were years ago.

Indeed, although actually my Gamecube, Wii and X360 (that I can think of) all have ATI, too. So.
