Morning

I spotted this and some of you guys may be interested. Its a free MBed prototyping board. Its quite cool and worth about £40.

www.circuitcellar.com/nxpmbeddesignchallenge/

fill the form in and receive a free geek toy, not bad really

PS: its in the C section because you code in a C like language

Wouldn't even know where to begin. I am/have always been shit at electronics.
But, Feck, that's awesome!!

Its quite easy as it will do most of the hard work for you, i started with a couple of Arduinos and you really cant go wrong.

For the arduino, you tell it what pin does what in terms of input or output.

pinmode(1,OUTPUT);

then check or set the pin to a value, HIGH is 5volts, LOW is 0v.

digitalwrite(1,HIGH); this turns things on

or

var=digitalread(1); this checks if the button you connected is pressed

similar thing for the MBed, as mine hasnt arrived yet i dont have any working knowledge but it will be similar.

time to revamp my steampunk case...

I looked into Arduino programming quite a bit, then decided I couldn't afford it. I will look into this. Thanks

Because arduino is opensource there are clone versions, freeduino, seeduino etc that are a bit cheaper out there.

I shop at coolcomponents.co.uk and are seasonably priced.

if anyone needs any help just ask, but there are less than 20 keywords if i remember, something silly like that

I use an arduino quite lavishly for a lot of projects. I'm going to look into mBed and see what i could do with it. Registering with this... Going to see about reviving an old project that needed a little more horsepower!

I got an email to say mine is in the second shipment and should be here before 8th October. a friend at work got an email saying his will be shipped in due course and never mentioned a delivery time.

Seems they are a popular item, i have some crazy ideas for what i can do with it, stay tuned....

Mine said that the mbed people would get a shipment from the supplier by Oct. 8th- not be on my doorstep.

I expect mine in four days to a week, or longer if the shipping sucks.

Surely when they arrive at peoples' doorsteps they'll be going on eBay for cheap.

I went to radioshack and bought a buzzer and a breadboard, and now I've made a fun little song

I do see one mbed on eBay, (that is probably from the contest) but they're selling it for $70 as well.

I certainly won't be putting mine on eBay, but I wish it would arrive soon!
