spinal	OK, a little rant. Dizi came home today with a new DVD (Blue-Ray + DVD + Digital Copy), Woohoo! I thought, Digital Copy! now I can convert it down to a lower resolution and watch it on my DS! WRONG!. At first it seems that today's media giants have noticed that people want to watch their movies on any old movie playing device that they own, not just their DVD player plugged into their TV. So they give you a file and let you think you can watch it on your personal media device, but no, they encrypted it so that you have to contact them in order to decrypt the thing. Even then, you can't decrypt the file completely, that has to be done in real time while you're playing it on your computer! That's right COMPUTER, You can only watch this 'digital copy' in itunes or windows media player! What use is that?!! If I wanted to watch it in media player I can use the DVD! It took years to get apple to remove DRM from music purchased through iTunes and the world was a much happier place because of it. Now they stop you from watching your own movies the way you want to. To top it all off, it is apparently illegal to remove DRM if you are in the USA, meaning any software for removing DRM can't be found because some American guy wrote the software or blog detailing its use, plus it's only a demo and you have to buy the full version to decrypt the whole file. It's actually faster to rip the DVD than to decrypt the DRM poisoned 'free' digital copy. -=-=- Check out my excellent homepage!

Stealth	The movie guys have this idea that the harder they make the DRM to crack, the more likely people will eventually throw their hands up in the air and give up. They fail to see that they are only making buying movies legitimately less enjoyable (and in a way--encouraging piracy). it is apparently illegal to remove DRM if you are in the USA This is why DRM is still so popular. Companies know removing it is illegal. -=-=- Quit posting and try Google.

JL235	The reason why piracy provailed in the late 1990s and early 2000s is simply because it was easier to pirate a film then to buy one. Why go on a 1-2 hour trip to town and back to buy a DVD when you could setup a torrent, sit back and have a coffee? Now with NetFliks, iTunes and many other products this is less true. This is real cure to piracy: produce better products!
