Socoder -> Books -> Kindle 3G

So I am totally going to spend money that I don't have on a Kindle... I'm wondering if it's worth getting the 3G one that has wireless internet even without wifi. It's £110 for wifi-only vs £154 for 3G.

Has anyone used the 3G Kindle? I don't mind if it's slow, but how feasible is doing things such as checking Google mail over 3G?

I know it's "technically" possible, but I don't know if the people complaining that it's slow are the people who have £500 phones + contracts to do the same job, or if it's really objectively not feasible.

Thoughts?

I have the kindle without 3G, does it well enough for me. I wouldnt think about 3g or not 3g, but rather normal kindle or kindle dx. dx has a nice size for watching pdf files.

So about 3G I cant tell anything, but I can say wifi is nice already.

Went for a normal wifi one in the end.

Got to say, I love it. Downloaded a load of (copyright expired) classics from Project Gutenberg in Kindle (.mobi) format.

I have some PDFs that are a bit more clumsy to read (as the kindle is less than A4), but I haven't tried converting them yet.

So can you browser the internet since it has wifi? Does it work well?

I have the wifi only as well. I can't stand using the browser, and can't imagine myself trying to use it on a 3G network. I think you made a good decision.

I'd love to have a flat touch pad/device. But I'd also want to be doing more then just reading books with it, and that's what puts me off the Kindle.

I might get a Galaxy Tab (or something similar).

That's why I like the Kindle. If I had a device that did everything, I'd never read on it. Also, the e-ink screen is a must for me.

I made a little video with my phone to show the webbrowser: dl.dropbox.com/u/6975244/VID-20110619-00006.3GP

there are probably way better videos out there : )

I just watched some Kindle browsing videos on YouTube, and I have to agree it's better then I thought but still I think it looks too painful for day to day use.

So I think I'll be going with an Android device, probably the eee Transformer. A good browser is a must for me. Although a new Galaxy Tab is comming out soon, so I might get that or the original Galaxy Tab (if the price comes down).
