root canals... coorrrrr!!!

I have to go to the dental hospital in Newcastle nowadays if I need a tooth pulled or out...

When I worked in London, I lost my place at the dentist due to not being able to make the check-up appointments... Now I'm home, and tried to get back into a dentist, they wont be on, unless of course, I sign up for a dental plan whatsit and give them cash every month...

Now, if something gives me a twitch in the gob department, I'm in my van first thing on a morning, crack of dawn styleee and head over there to make sure I get a place for that day.

Bit cack I just cannot go to a local one and get regular checkups and treatment without being tied down financially, but, thats the world we live in.

I really need to get round to the dentist, not sure how long they keep you on record if you don't go for checkups...

I almost named this topic "SoreCoder", but then decided against it.

I need to see a dentist. God only knows when that'll happen!!
When I was 11 (1991!) I tripped, fell over, and broke my front tooth.
They capped it, and all was well, until 21 years later, when the doctors pulled the damn cap out, whilst I was under anaesthetic, as they tried to remove the breathing tube.. Grrr!!
Did they offer to fix it? Did they bugger!!!
I've had a little chip missing for the past few months.
tsk

I normally have sedation for extractions and used to have the same for fillings but these last two visits I was as calm as the dead sea.

Those root canal fillings aren't as bad as they sound, they basically grind-out all the tooth pulp and then wind a really thin rasp-file into the nerve and then pull it out like a worm. It's more uncomfortable if anything coz you get jaw-ache after a while.

I have to go back in a few weeks to have the crown put in, they put in a temporary caulk filling for now until I go back. The stuff that I had to bite on for the mould impression tasted really fucking mank!. LOL

I've had a couple of root fillings, I agree with steve. They're nothing to worry about, modern dentistry isn't bad at all if you get a competent dentist (which is less likely if you go to a training hospital ). The only think I never liked about the dentist is the cost, dentists should be [fully] funded by the NHS, I pay my taxes...

For the record, that looks nothing like a Brain Surgeon. And I should know!!

I agree, though, that Dentistry oughta be on the NHS. And not just 'cos I'm skint!

I totally agree - dentistry should be free from the NHS, unless it's for requested cosmetic purposes eg tooth whitening, braces and teeth straightening in adults (they should have had them done as kids) etc.

Oral health is as much a part of Health as any other form of health protection (which is free on the NHS), especially since poor oral health can lead to heart and other problems down the line.
