Gets right on my goat that... my line, in theory, should get about 12Mbps, it doesnt of course, so, if it levelled out at 5 or 6, id still be happy, but when it drops to around 1 and the needle on a speed test goes berserk, im usually on the phone bollocking BT, because it also makes BT Vision unusable... i managed to click a free month once because i bought Ted, and the speed hit the deck half way through and it was unwatchable... i was livid, on the blower to some poor sod demanding they severe my contract!

I shouldn't complain. I'm on Virgin Media broadband, previously NTL. Have been since they first launched.
The connection is damn near perfect, and usually actually manages to hit the advertised 10mbs, especially when using Newsgroups, which go super-fast!!

The issue, in this case, was the Monkey Server, which we all know has been acting up lately. I could tell it was that, because even Socoder was loading at a quicker rate. A sure-fire hint that a server's not having a good day.

I wish, I live in a small-medium size town in Australia and the best I can get is 1.5 Mbps ADSL . You would struggle to get a 10 Mbps connection in the middle of Sydney.

I love working for an ISP!

I get my internets for free, not just your plain old ADSL either, FTTC or Fibre to the cabinet. This works by installing the exchange in the little (not so little now) green cabinets at the end of your road, only mine is outside my back door, my phone line is now essentially 30metres long. I get 76mbit down 20up because thats the product at the moment. VDSL2+ has a max around 100mb I believe but I'm happy with close to 80meg!

BT vision will switch the profile on your line and limit it to 1600kbit IIRC, also the only part of an ADSL service that is poor is the copper from your house to the exchange, BTs network is good for the most part (I dont work for BT!)

I can post a link to our standard diags page?

Of course you can!

I'm on 10m/s, (mine, too, is FTTC, although our cabinet is about 10 houses away.) I could up it to at least 50, but don't want to add to the cost, atm.. Who am I to complain, though? 10 is fine for anything I use it for! I can even watch BBC iPlayer, in HighDef, on my iPad Retina, without any issues. I have no complaints.. Except when there's a shitty server on the other end of the line!!
