At 11:26 today, my famiily said a very sad and final farewell to Storm. Storm was 11 and a half, and the best, longest lived and most loyal german shepherd we've ever owned. He will be forever missed by the whole famiy and everyone that knew him.

We pray that we will meet again, over the Rainbow Bridge.

Goodbye Storm, you will never be forgotten. Lots of Love on your long walk.

When I was a kid we had a black and tan German Sheppard named Beauty, although we called her Boobbie as a nickname.

She lived about 15 years but had to be put to sleep due to her back legs that kept giving way, a common condition that they get we were told, I think they called it hip-displacia as far as I remember.

R.I.P Storm.

Cheers chaps

We've had several German shepherds and luckily none have had hip-displasia; Storm was still running around chasing his ball at the park yesterday. He was old and rickety, but no obvious signs of any problems. We woke up this morning to find he'd had a stroke. We then had to make that awful decision.

You can just tell by the picture he looks a good'un, he's gorgeous!

Such a shame he had to go matey, I'm gutted for you and your family, but just remember the 11 and a half years of good times, bet he's enjoyed them all as much as you lot!

@GfK - That picture is gorgeous. Really sums up the majesty of GSDs.

We had already planned to get another GSD before Storm left us. We got Noof recently, knowing that Willow and Storm could help teach him the ropes while they were around - they've doen a great job.

Now it's just Willow and Noof. Willow is 12 and a half, so her time on this earth is limited too. Come September we'll be looking for a new GSD - not as a replacement for Storm, but it's what we've always said we'd do. Plus, working shifts we need to ensure that the family and home is safe and protected.
