Socoder -> Off Topic -> April 2007 - "Finish it off" Month

Unfinished projects. There's about 20 or so sitting on my Hard Drive right now.
Unfinished Platdude games.
Incomplete Workshop entries.
3 Fruit Machines, 2 puzzle games and a whole host of other little things.
And I never did finish off the Super Mario Land remake, the Super Dig Dug, or those compo entries that I started but never remembered to finish in time to enter!

So this month, in a blatent attempt to fill up the rather sad looking Showcase section, I've decided that April should be "Finish it Off" month.

So, Dig out what you've got, finish off a project or two, and shove them on the showcase.

I'm expecting the section to be full by May.

Good Luck!

I dunno.. I half-assed a Devcrunch takeover for April Fools day, but halfway through figured it was actually a pretty nice theme.. So... Feckin' useless April Fool, if you ask me!

I'll get rid!

For me getting back into something I have left is the hardest part. Means I got to learn to read and understand my own code. But once I get rolling its usually all good. Come to think of it I got tons of unfinished projects.

This is completely off topic but how comes my theme has transformed into this weird dev-crunchy thing?

I do have that old 'Fight for Shroom City' game, which only had one level, that my friends were nagging me to finish... but, I probably won't. Too repetitive/easy/boring game.

Ah well... I suppose I'd better get my map editor finished.

I reinstalled Windows yesterday, and wiped everything from my hard drive. So unfortunately, I only have one unfinished game left.

If I did expand the 'Fight for Shroom City' game, then I'd probably want to write it again from the beginning. Although if you really, really want, I might post the unfinished version in the showcase.

|edit| Although really, I need to finish off this RPG Engine first. |edit|

Gah...I just have the stupidest, most annoying feeling. I feel like I want to get some programming done, but then, at the same time, I just can't be bothered. I know exactly what needs to be done, but I just don't have the willpower to bring myself to do it. Maybe I shouldn't try to program late at night. Maybe I should attempt to in the afternoon, when I'm more awake...

You should just bite the bullet and sit down and do some work. If you still don't feel like it in half an hour, then you really don't. But often I'll find I get into the mood once I've actually sat down and started.

blanko - I often feel like that, escpeially when the stuff I am coding is not making an obvious improvement to whatever I am working on. Stuff like designing interfaces, refactoring badly planned code, etc... stuff that has to be done to allow future features, but is otherwise boring and time consuming.

Unfortunately the only way I've found is like DiablosDevil said - force yourself to sit down and code. Grit your teeth and get on with it, and look forward to when it is finished. Sometimes you may even be pleasantly surprised that it takes less work than you thought

I'm just like that too, so maybe I should try your suggestion, and force myself to code.

And so we come to the end of April. Only one day to go, and I've still a few bits to do on Hero, but am pretty happy by the progress I've done within the month.

So, have you managed to complete anything within April? Have you furthered progress on something you'd forgotten about? Or have you just plodded along as you usually do?

I've got more unfinished projects than I did at the start of the month. I did manage to complete a few small projects though, for which I am happy.

I finished the RPG Engine, although I still need to segment it so mopenator can use it...

In unrelated news, this is also the last day for SoCodaward Nominations, and I haven't finished mine yet!
