This TP-Link VR200 router is a sack of shite. It's going back to the shop tomorrow - nothing but agro with it.

Performs like a girl's handbag, too.

My Sky+ box won't connect to it. Well, it DOES and I can download films and stuff, but the IP address shown on the Sky box, isn't the one shown on the router. It sometimes shows up as "SkyWirelessConnector", sometimes as "Unknown", both with the same mac address. In either case, I have an app on my phone that I use in place of a remote control to use the Sky box from upstairs (we have a wireless video sender). It can sometimes find the Sky box on the network, but only probably once out of every ten times. It works every time with the BT router.

Likewise with our CCTV system. It's located as such that it's difficult to get it hooked up to the router. So I use a couple of powerline adapters to get around that, and it won't connect to the router at all. I plugged the network cable into my laptop and that can't connect to the router either. Again, this all works perfectly with the BT HomeHub 5.

Also had trouble with the wireless laser printer not connecting to the router. You just want to print an invoice or something, but the printer shows as offline and you spend the next hour fannying on trying to get it to work, and when it does, you end up with 15 copies of the same fecking thing! :/

These might seem like trivial things but when you've got all your shit working how you need it to work, then all of a sudden it doesn't, and there's no logic for it doing what it's doing... pisses you off!

It does look like a handbag mind!

How many antennas? Looks like it's sponsored by SETI!

Fucking Maplins!

Took the router back today to get a refund. They proper quizzled me about why I was taking it back - at one point I thought they were going to tie me to a chair, shine a lamp in my face and slap me repeatedly with a leather glove. :/

I think they wanted me to say it's faulty. I don't think it was, though - it was just shit. But I guess they can't put that on the returns form. In the end they decided on "poor wireless range", which wasn't true either as one of the things that wouldn't work was plugged in via ethernet.

Hey ho. Maplins. Craplins, more like.

Geeze, you bought something from Maplins??
I treat Maplins like I used to treat Tandy. Good for fiddle little electronic bits, and occasionally the odd rare wire, but... For actual goods? Eeek!!

It was lucky I did go to Maplins. Would have been a right pain in the arse posting it back to somewhere cos it was crap.

I've basically got a choice of Maplins, Argos and PC World (who mostly sell cookers and freezers now). Hence, Maplins.
