Congratulations. A job well done. Now you can pat yourself on the back whilst the fossil fuels continue to deplete. Bravo.. Linkage

I personally think the global warming thing is bollocks, if it were that bad then the world order would have banned cars already. I'm not saying that something doesn't need to be done though, it is evident that combustible substances are the route of war and control; it's about time they got all that shelved technology back out and apply it to powering our cars, homes, and businesses.

Global warming or not, those fuels aren't going to be there forever, and the rate we're using them is insane.
I bet if they'd spent the same time, energy and money building a giant solar farm in the middle of Texas, then that would have been infinitely better for all of us.

But it IS that bad. Volvo are phasing out all petrol and diesel engines in the next couple of years. Others are starting to follow suit and within 20 years nobody will be making them any more.

Renewable energy is the future, if we want a future at all.

I do sometimes wonder though if they say the supplies are dwindling in order to keep the prices up, soon motoring will be only in the realm of the rich if it keeps going the way it is. But you still have the right idea though, it's time for change nonetheless.

What we need is a giant mouse wheel, hooked up to an electrical generator... Then we can power the world with cheese!

Whether or not we've contributed to global warming (or not) or if oil will last indefinitely is irrelevent really. We need to secure a future for us and generations to come and we should have started years ago.

Being so reliant on fossil fuels for so long has held eveybody back and possibly contributed to the global crisis. I've seen and read arguments for and against, but trying to reduce harm and prevent further damage is never a bad thing.

I'm hearing reports in the Nissan plant that the new Leaf will get a realistic real world distance of 215 miles per charge (Officially it's 235 miles), the current Leaf does 115 mile per charge, and that rolls in at £3.70ish per charge.

This would work for me, as I only use the car for work anyway really, and the odd run about... And I'll be honest, I like the look of the new Leaf too:-

www.nissan.co.uk/vehicles/new-vehicles/leaf-2018.html?&cid=psma0TjZkBJ_dc|U

Overall though, it's like everything else... Better batteries will come, enticing people in, then the price of charging will go up, and then... Petrol stations will start dying, probably only major motorway ones left in service stations for HGV's and that sorta stuff.

But yeah, I'd have a lecky car no worries!

A workmate owns a Leaf and thinks it's great. No issues with charging; just takes a bit of planning ahead of time.

That would work for me too Mike. Problem is my income won't enable me to get a brand new car, I've never paid more than two grand for any of mine.

New Leaf looks pretty nice, to be fair.

I'm glad to see that because let's be honest, there's been a tendency to make electric cars look pig-ugly. The G-Whizz and VW Up spring to mind - even the BMW i3. If car companies want a bigger uptake on electric cars then they need to stop making ones that look like they were designed by somebody who's escaped from a mental hospital.

TBF a lot of the larger style cars look pig ugly nowadays (IMHO). Look at the likes of the Citroen Cactus

And a lot of others look pretty much the same.

Even then new Smart cars look very snubby -

New style

Old style

I know neither are great lookers, but the old style looks much better to me.

But then, TBH these cars are not aimed at me. Thankfully!

That Citroen would be fine, except for the name, and the ruddy great slabs of black plastic glued all over it.

But then it would be a shit looking Range Rover.

You have similar taste as me with cars Jay, I quite like the old Morgan's and other stuff like that.

I love the look of old fashioned cars too. I'd certainly rather be driving in their world back then than our world now - much more peaceful and far fewer twats.

I prefer the old style Beetles to the new ones. Same as the Mini.

And those old cars were servicable by the owner - every piece could be removed and replaced at home, without the need for some computer diagnostic system.

Of course they polluted the air far more and were more prone to breakdowns, but when you can fix them yourself that's not such a big deal.
