Feel pretty good now, seems like it's just the sniffles, no home tests available, been trying throughout the day and I'm apparently not allowed to go to the local hospital to get tested as i don't have a car but, although I could walk there, they've told me not to and there's no walk-in tests nearby.

Ordered a thermometer to check my temperature tomorrow and over the weekend, not usre if I'll be allowed to have the kids around, we'll see I guess.

Whether it's "allowed" or not is probably your decision. If you do have it, is it worth risking coming into contact with the kids?
Maybe set yourself a week's safety zone, just in case.

I know it's hard, but you're doing the right thing keeping it away from them.

BBC's posted a "Covid or Flu" article

News that my Nan's sister passed away, today. Mum's "Aunt Maureen" lived over in Northern Ireland, and Mum's distraught, wondering whether to go over there or not.
Would a flight be a good idea?
Would she even be able to attend the funeral.
Lots of weepiness, stress, confusion and more.

Sorry for your loss

Flying is not forbidden is it? It is pretty safe with all the measures.

A long time friend of my Stepfather who died a couple of years ago now also has died a while ago. He was still young as in 40+/- or so. We did not see him for a while as when my stepfather was still alive they had a fall out and stopped hanging out.

Flying's not forbidden but Mum's worried about the fact that she'd have to catch a bus to get to the train station to get to the airport, then the same on the other side, and again on the way back, too, and the funeral gathering in the middle.
Lots of close-quarters with a varied set of people.

Sorry to hear that Jay.

Buses around here are fairly empty at the moment - most have one or two passengers at most. Even so, the public tranport companies are still sectioning off seats so that social distancing can be maintained. She will have to wear a face mask on all public transport and while at the airport.

Funerals are permitted - there is a limit of about 30 mourners IIRC. However I would say that she would be best to avoid the wake/gathering after the funeral - these likely happen in the home of the deceased, so are likely to be small and difficult to distance and with no masks and lots of drinking (joke (but also true from my experience) - What's the difference between an Irish wedding and an Irish funeral? > Reveal 🔎)

So if she does go, then she needs to take a bit more care than if she were popping to the local shops, as there wil be pressure/guilt after the actual funeral about mingling.

I nocited on bbc world tjhis morning that they were talking about that the 2nd wave started in england. I think there is a possibility that if your mum goes she might get stuck in a lockdown there or in the middle?

There's also the "people she hasn't seen in a long time, but can't hug" factor, too.

That's what I meant by mingling - the meeting and greeting of relatives, friends and others she hasn't seen in a while - which always includes hugs and kisses etc.

Mum's arranging with a friend of the family in the town to buy an extra large bouquet.
Uncle Dave came down today, and some tears and things...
Ugh...

Mum won't be going.

It isn't a lockdown.
Stay indoors.
Wear a mask.
Pubs close at 10.
But it definitely isn't a lockdown.
But don't go out.

Thanks.
Mum managed ok, yesterday. A little weepy at the time of the funeral, though.
I suggested maybe writing a poem and posting it to Facebook. .. She used to write a lot of poetry, but hasn't for a long time.
In the end, she googled a generic sympathy poem, and posted that.

.. Close enough

Just in. Here in the netherlands we are now adviced to wear the protective nose/mouth masks in public spaces. This means I wil be starting to have to use them. Friday it might be mandatory and be met with fines if you don't wear them.

Today, Mum's been rearranging the dining room.
She's found a fairly bad amount of damp behind one of the units. We're going to have to get that looked at. Maybe Uncle Jimmy, if he can find time..

I've been sleeping tons. Don't seem to have much energy.
I think I probably need to get out more.

A friend of the family died last week. She had cancer. A couple of months after my stepfather died she found out she had cancer. The treatments only helped in the beginning. She was 66. In the last 4 years 6 people died in our family and social circle.

Open, close, lock, fuck...
There's now a three-tier thing, so those of you outside of Bolton don't have to put up with the massive lockdown restrictions.

Government incompetence and they have fingers in the self same pies...

There was a news story on BBC News yesterday that I can't find now. It was about an MP who was linked directly to a company making billions from PPE that was set up only 7 weeks ago... Despite the fact that in April the BBC reported that 8000 companies had contacted the government about providing PPE.

They are all eating from the same trough and it's full of rich, rich gravy - supplied by train.

...

I've just booked my first days of sickness for two years. It's just a heavy cold, but even the thought of having to wear PPE with it is unbearable and would be impossible. It's contageous too - my son passed it to my wife and I.
