PC World .. Gone..

PC World and Carphone Warehouse are now nothing more than nostalgic memories.
Farewell, my dearest friends.

And nothing of value was lost, let's face it it's just another corporate merger. Might keep a weary eye on Currys SP over the next few days.

The merger happened years ago, It's technically just a rebrand.

Yeah it's been Curry's PC World for a LONG time.
I saw the first Curry's TV advert, today. Pretty much the same, even has the same music and Hugh Dennis doing the voiceover.
So. No difference, really.

Now the ultimate question....

Is it Curry's, or Currys' ....?

Also, what would be the collective noun for them? A Phaal of Currys?

Dixons was always so much better (IMO) wish that was still around.

Yea, the competition angle is dead and Currys has always seemed like a bit of a dead company anyway - limping on but don't really care about the products or the customers.

Dixons was rather nice, good variety of housewares and a smattering of Tech, Consoles, PC's ,etc. Ahhh, that nostalgia....

I always preferred Comet to Currys.

Dixons was OK, but all their shops were far too small.

There was a good computer store called SoftCentre back in the day in Churchill Square Brighton, and then one day in the early 1990s it shut down without warning.

@Steve - I think it was the same everywhere. We had a couple - one called "RAMS" the other, "Softly" One day they were there, the next they weren't

I miss those days of going into a store with a tenner and looking through rack upopn rack of the latest games and MasterTronic dross - each one a potential hit and looking sooooooo exciting from the box art and screenshots (screenshots may be from other versions of the game! ) then paying your money and ultimately looking forward to seeing the shit review in C&VG two months later to confirm your purchase was a dud!

We had two. Bolton Computer Centre, for the games, and a couple of doors down, a more professional looking Bolton Computer World, for the utilities.
Both had friendly staff that would chat about new software, and discuss pros/cons, etc.
Step into a modern shop and you'll get handed the week's "Biggest Seller", or rather, whatever game isn't selling well that the seller's on commission to get out the door.

Booooo!!!!!
*haven't been into a game/hardware/etc shop since Feb 2012.

Loved being part of the Saturday crowd in SoftCentre and Brighton Computer Exchange which was my main haunt, used to sometimes get bunged freebies because we used to draw in passers by and that would generate sales.

They're great names for computer shops.
