Amazon vs Visa vs Brexit!

Since we're no longer part of the EU, and the Credit Card Cap no longer applies, Visa are upping their Credit Card charges, all across the board.
Because fuck the consumer.

As a result, Amazon are going "hey, yo, what the hell?" and Visa aren't playing ball.
So Amazon's getting all pissed off and cutting off Visa.
As such, from next year, you won't be able to Amazon with a Visa Credit Card.

Currently it seems that Visa Debit cards are ok, as are AmEx and Mastercard Credit Cards, and all other debit card types.
But.. fuxake.. I only have one bank account, and one card, and it's a Visa Debit, and if I can't buy from Amazon, I'm royally fucked.

Grrrr.

Irony is here in the states I have an Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card issued by JP Morgan Chase. Like you, I live and breathe Amazon. Only option for me, especially now.

Have you tried calling your bank to see if they'll issue you with a different card?

Although, it looks like you'll be okay as you're using a debit card. Maybe the act of upping credit card charges could help deter people from leaning on them so much, but then again, I could just be being optimistic about people being responsible for themselves.

Alternatively, there's always ebay and the rest of the internet.

I'll wait and see what happens. If all hell breaks loose, I'm sure the bank will come up with a solution.. .. right? !

I'd imagine that they would want to, it's likely all just corporate posturing being used and fueled by the media to stir people and corps up into a frenzy.

I would expect them to come to an arrangement shortly. If not, just be prepared, open up a new bank account with access to a mastercard or other credit supplier then you can always transfer money between the two accounts. Not that it's likely to come to that as banks without (and I doubt there are any) access to the Mastercard systems would lose a lot of customers and revenue.

Easier said than done.. I just about managed to get a College account whilst at college, without a passport, since I was at college and they were able to vouch for me. Aaah, the good old days..
That got upgraded after college, and eventually transferred to a different bank at a later point.
But, now I'm a 41 year old, without any proof of identity whatsoever. No drivers license, no passport, nothing.

My banking is quite literally hanging on a knife edge!!

... To be fair, I really do need to get that ID situation sorted..

Not sure of the specifics, but a few years back many of the banks, including mine, switched from Visa to Master Card for the debit cards.

My Visa debit card expired in May this year. My bank issued a new card - it was a MasterCard. I was pissed at first as it causesd a lot of hassles. Maybe it's a good thing now though - I can see other companies following suit if it's going to cost them significantly more in their charges.

How does that work? Here we just have this iDeal payment system that connects to any dutch bank. It took a long time before a lot of the big online companies started using this.
Then when paypal came along they had this option to connect the local bank account to it. Putting money into the account in other ways is easy also.

Here we do not use credit cards that much.

In the UK, PayPal is an option for most retailers, but not all. I prefer using PayPal TBH, as I feel it's safer than a debit card. But alas, even some big name companies don't support it - including Amazon. IIRC PayPal fees are/were higher than Visa's/MasterCard's for sellers, hence why not everyone offers PP.

Well, it's good to have some notice so you can get prepared for this sorta stuff at least. Reminds me I need to pay off my Credit Card later on this month, ahhh that'll be fun...

@Rockford. Here Amazon announced they will soon accept Venmo which is owned by PayPal.

I think here when some of the banks switched to Master Card it was when cards started having chips on them and Master Card was supposed to be a tad more secure. IIRC
