I'm officially old today... I collected my first prescription glasses! Got to get use to the ’’warping’’ effect around them...

Wait until you get to bifocals and trifocals. First time getting used to them is rough. My eyesight is such that glasses do not work well for me anymore. Pretty much like Mr Magoo. It will take a few days, but then it ill be second nature. Much better to be able to see and have things nice and sharp.

I've worn glasses since I was 18. However worse than glasses are hearing aids! I have terrible tinnitus 24/7 finally had to get hearing aids; I've been using then since 19th November this year. They have pros and cons. |

you can get hearing aids to help tinnitus? What's the method? Do they just amplify the sound to louder than the whining?

What's the method? Proper ones for tinnitus, they do testing to find the narrow frequency range of the whine you are hearing from tinnitus. Then they design a custom hearing aid that generates a counter frequency that audibly cancels out the frequencies of your tinnitus. Underlying, the same principle as the double cavitation propulsion system used in Russian submarines for decades. The hearing aids work wonders, and often have to be adjusted to counter changes to your tinnitus. Sadly, not widely available, but here you can get them, just takes some hunting to find a facility that can help. Have learned to mentally block my tinnitus, but if I let my guard down (like when I am sick now), sounds like Cicadas all the time. |

It is nice to see things crisp, but even after only 10 minutes or so of wearing them then taking them off my eyes take a while to go back to normal, like a fog/blur is over them... going to take awhile to get use to this. I’m short sighted, so these are of course for long site (tv range and further).

I’m short sighted, so these are of course for long site (tv range and further). In typical Kuron fashion, one eye is far sighted one eye is near sighted, so I always had to wear the glasses. |

Wow, I don't think I've ever heard of that, before. Here, insurance will NOT pay for it, and you really do have to hunt for a facility. Much like with AC/DC and Brian Johnson losing his hearing and the medical profession saying retire and there was nothing they could do. Private researcher got ahold of him, got him to come and try what he was working on and told Brian I guarantee it will work. Brian tried it, the guy miniaturized it, and Brian is back rocking. The tinnitus stuff came out of the military industrial complex. Normally when you jam a communication signal, it gets garbled and people know it is being jammed. We were wanting ways to neutralize the communication signal, so the intended receiver would not hear it being jammed and would think it was simply not being sent. Obviously, frequency cancellation has medical advantages, like tinnitus. In the russian subs, they use two screws, and the blades on each run in a different direction, as one screw turns clockwise and the other turns counterclockwise which virtually kills the acoustic signature and are almost impossible to be picked up by other subs or microphones placed along the ocean floor. The microphones on the ocean floors are so numerous, that the US Navy can triangulate the position of any sound they hear. You could literally be floating on a piece of wood and pound out an SOS on the wood with your hand, and the Navy will hear it. They will not respond and will likely not even look with a satellite to see what is going on, but they will hear it and know within feet where you are. Hence foreign subs need to be invisible acoustically. |

@Kuron - Remember the NHS does hearing aids completely free of charge (check-ups, updates, repairs and even the batteries (they're moving to USB rechargable ones soon)), so it'll never be as good tech-wise as private. But it does the job.

Ah. OK. The media here portrays the U.S. healthcare system (except emergency) as bankruptcy inducing expensive, even for the smallest of ailments. I presumed that hearing/visual aids would be paid for (and like other healthcare). Glad to be corrected.

Most here have insurance and insurance covers normal hearing aids. Will not cover things like the ones for tinnitus. If one can't afford insurance, there are places that give free normal hearing aids (glasses too).
