Reminds me of how I did the sound effects in The Need For Friction, for the spark gaps I used a zip tie in a desk fan and changed its pitch, and did a quick whistle with my own gob for the plasma shots, still got some more to do.

I recorded a number of sound effects from tv using my Amas 2 sampler for the Amiga. I think I did 4 disks full of them. A pd company, 17bit pd, would let you select a free pd disk of choice in return for every disk they accepted.
They are no longer online as they were from tv.

With paper you can do some nice effects too. Clapping these, or blowing through constructions

I did a foley session when making Shoebox of Games.
Grabbed a copy of Monopoly:Mario Kart Edition that I had from my Birthday, and basically recorded most of the sounds from that. Taps on the board, rolls of the dice, cards flipping and flopping.
Almost all of the sounds in that engine are from that board game, other than the bubble pops which are me!

But nothing squelchy. I wouldn't want to waste that much fruit&veg

Those gore sounds from vegi's I watched a long time ago on tv. There was someone beating up on a lettuce and breaking a celery.

I think I also posted a sfx creation tool a while ago here. That one was from itch.io(browser based)

Most of those retro sound effect tools are based on DrPetter's SFXr

I've got a few music/sound effect libraries that contain thousands of sound effects, but the only one I actually had trouble with believe it or not was the sound of a dart hitting a dartboard... I couldnt just get the "thunk" noise right, even sounds effects of actual darts hitting a dart board didnt fit right oddly enough (Hard to explain, but, it didnt sit well with the cartoonish feel of the game, not quite sure what it was if I'm honest but I didnt like it).

Then Gfk told me when he made his dart game he created his own "thunk" by thumping his finger on a big book... So I tried it... And... Perfecto, as soon as that dart hit the dart board it was like, yeah, that's the one! lol

It is rather weird how recordings of actual sounds don't sound like the source but something completely different does.

In the old days, in MassCom, you studied how sound effects were made real-time in the days of old-time radio. Very applicable to creating sounds for video games.
