Does anyone know if you can get a cycle helmet in the style of an old timey leather flying hat?

Like this?
.. That's more "horse rider", though..

You mean like what they wore in Quiditch?

Something like this, but it could offer protection when I go head-over-handlebar...

Yeah, it's definitely the same shape as that horsey hat. Add some goggles and you're mostly there.
... do they sell flappy bits of fur-lined leather that you could attach to the sides?

Biggles hat, I did a quick search for it on ebay. Linkage!

Put a cycle helmet underneath and you've got yourself some protection.

Not always. Be careful if overlaying a material over a helmet that it isn't too tight to cause extra pressure on the outer layer of the helmet.

Oh, disappointed.

Thought that hats for bikes discussion was going to be literally about hats made for bikes.

I'm not quite sure what that would look like exactly, maybe a bowler on to of the handle bars and possibly a moustache accessory under the front headlamp?

So can you get hats for bikes?

What if the Biggles hat is oversize though?, that could get around the too tight thing.

Or maybe cut the hat down to middle and glue the two halves to the cycle helmet.

Whichever way you do it you will need to put some punch holes where the cycle helmet has vents or you will overheat.
