Congrats.. ... Have you added all the costs up, for the whole 31 years? Probably best not to!!

You just beat me; I've been driving for just over 30.

@Jay:
I would hate to think of the cost over the years.

@rockford:
I did the test on 5th of July 1991 with DSA in Hove and passed first time. Proper hot and sunny that day, lots of visibility.

I'm still waiting to see if it's true or bollocks about insurance getting rapidly cheaper once I hit 50.

I know it went down when I got to about 25.

I've been driving since 1989 and hit 50 this year and it was cheaper so maybe it's true?

That said, I'm with Direct Line and it was their auto renewal that was cheaper this year which surprised me.

It's usually more and I have to get a cheaper quote elsewhere and ask if they can match it. I did look, but no where else was as cheap although there were some unknown insurers that were close.

So it might come down to who you're with.

My insurance last year (when I was 50 was more than the year before), but this year it was cheaper. Not by much though.

I got a quote when my insurance was due in May and Direct Line wanted £800, and the cheeky buggers had the cheek to phone me.

I don't get why these insurance companies take the piss so much, it's just a MK2 Renault Megane 1.9 DCi-130 Sport Tourer Estate, do they have a vendetta against French cars or something?. Plus I'm 48 not a 17 year old chav.

Wow, that's brutal. I'm down to £300 after it had been creeping up to £400 in previous years.

I've always had the Mrs as a named driver which knocks the cost down, and selecting a cheaper job title, but other than that play the getting quotes game every year to keep it on check.

Ah, that makes sense, it's just me on this policy. Going back a few years my stepdaughter put me on as second driver on hers and it went down by about £150, next year I might try putting my ex on as an additional driver and see if that brings it down.
